Alex Knost Wins Malibu Duct Tape

Those stylish retro longboarders hit up Malibu, California’s Surfrider Beach on September 9-10, 2011 for the first SoCal stop of the Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational. Not surprisingly, first place went to Alex Knost.

After whittling the initial 16 down to the four finalists, Alex Knost took home $4,000 for first place, Justin Quintal $3,000 for second, Christian Wach $2,000 for third and Harrison Roach pocketed $1,000 for fourth spot. Knost’s win in Malibu follows a first place finish in the Duct Tape Invitational in Santa Cruz earlier this year.

Malibu, CA (September 12, 2011) – The Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational went down this past weekend, September 9 and 10, at world-famous Surfrider Beach in Malibu, CA, with 16 of the best longboarders in the world riding 12-lb, single fin leashless boards along with some serious style and nose riding all for a $10,000 purse.

The first Southern California stop of the series came through with fun surf, beautiful weather and big crowds and was held in conjunction with the Malibu Surf Association’s MSA Classic.

After whittling the initial 16 down to the four finalists, Alex Knost took home $4,000 for first place, Justin Quintal $3,000 for second, Christian Wach $2,000 for third and Harrison Roach pocketed $1,000 for fourth spot. Knost’s win in Malibu follows a first place finish in the Duct Tape Invitational in Santa Cruz earlier this year.

Introduced last year at the East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach, the Duct Tape Invitationals are an innovative series of events Vans developed with Joel Tudor showcasing longboarding in its purest aesthetic and pushing the envelope on traditional longboarding technique. In addition to Virginia Beach, Vans has brought the Duct Tape Invitational to legendary Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY, Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, CA, and Playa Salinas in Salinas, Spain.
