Converse Launches The Kenny Anderson KA-One

by The Editors on June 15, 2011

To promote the launch of his new KA-One shoe from Converse Kenny Anderson kickflipped into a nose manual in LA and didn’t stop until he got to Las Vegas, or at least that’s the hook to the film LA to Vegas.

We can say this: Kenny spent like a year on his front wheels for this one (even ding some skateboard towing behind a bus to show how tough he is). Watch and you’ll see what we mean. . . For more info on how Converse is launching this shoe follow the jump.Converse Ka-One-2

CONVERSE LAUNCHES THE KA-ONE SHOE WITH THE
KENNY ANDERSON “LA TO VEGAS” CAMPAIGN

Converse Skate Ambassador Kenny Anderson’s first signature shoe and
campaign debut on Converse.com and in-stores June 15th

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (June 15, 2011) – Today, CONVERSE Inc. debuts Converse Skate Ambassador Kenny Anderson’s signature shoe, the Converse KA-ONE, with the “LA to Vegas” integrated brand campaign. A key member of the Converse skate team in the 1990’s, Anderson returned to Converse last year, making the KA-ONE his first signature shoe with the brand. The featured element of the campaign is a two-minute short film, “LA to Vegas,” that follows Anderson attempting the longest nose manual in history from his current home in Los Angeles to his hometown of Las Vegas.

“When we were throwing around ideas for a campaign, I knew I wanted to celebrate all the people that have influenced me and helped me get to where I am today,” said Converse skate ambassador Kenny Anderson. “I also wanted it to represent my homecoming, coming back home to Vegas and coming back home to Converse. I’m excited about how the film turned out and for the release of my first signature shoe.”

The “LA to Vegas” brand campaign follows Anderson and his increasing number of influential friends, who join in the procession along the way, while Kenny nose manuals the entire way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. The campaign, shot in an authentic and gritty style, pays tribute to Anderson’s introduction in the 2001 skate video “One Step Beyond,” where Anderson nose manuals all the way from Las Vegas to Redlands, California before tripping on a rock just short of Los Angeles. In “LA to Vegas,” Anderson overcomes the rock and makes his way back to his childhood home, picking up new friends, passing by friends and enjoying the adventurous journey along the way. A surreal day in the life of Kenny Anderson, fans can view his epic journey at Converse.com.

“Kenny Anderson is an essential member of the Converse skate team, having been a part of the Converse skate family in the 1990’s, and we’re thrilled to have him back,” said Geoff Cottrill, Chief Marketing Officer, Converse. “We wanted the campaign for his first signature shoe to celebrate his career and reflect his style of skate in every way. I think we accomplished that.”

Converse launches the “LA to Vegas” campaign, created by Anomaly of New York City, with select broadcast, print and online media partners beginning June 15, 2011. Additionally, Kenny Anderson will be at Converse Coastal Carnage, the only pro/am skate contest consisting of more than 30 A-list skateboarders, which returns to Huntington Beach, California this summer at the 2011 Nike US Open of Surfing.

The new Converse KA-ONE shoe featured in “LA to Vegas” is built on the legacy of the Converse Classic Trainer ‘76 and crafted for today’s skater. It will be available nationwide on June 15, 2011 at specialty retailers, and online at www.converse.com for a suggested retail price of $65.
