The NSSA’s 2011 Smartest Surfers List

by The Editors on June 15, 2011

Taylorpitz.ChrisgrantwebWithout going into any cranky rantings about how bullshit anything over a 4.0 grade point average is (because we all know honors classes are easier for all kinds of reasons), we do think it’s cool that surfers who get good grades are recognized by the National Scholastic Surfing Association.

So, for 2011 here are the best GPA in the line-up:

Canyon Crest Academy’s Tad McCardell 4.7 GPA
Olive Grove Charter’s Parker Coffin 4.67 GPA
Laguna Beach High’s Taylor Pitz 4.4 GPA (pictured right)

Congrats to all three. It’s great to see surfers being congratulated for doing something with their minds for a change. For all the rest of the NSSA surfers who completed the last school year at or above a 3.5 GPA follow the jump.NSSA ANNOUNCES THE 2011 NSSA SURFER SCHOLARS!

(June 15, 2011 – Huntington Beach, Ca) — One of the primary goals of the National Scholastic Surfing Association is to emphasize and encourage the academic achievement of its membership. The Surfer Scholar list serves to recognize NSSA student surfers who have a passion for learning and have excelled scholastically. The National Scholastic Surfing Association congratulates all of our student surfers who have maintained an outstanding 3.5 GPA or higher for the 2010-11 school year. We are proud to honor these outstanding student athletes!

now subtract all the home schooled retards, and you’re left 2 or 3 legit smarties. it’s not hard to get 4.67 when mom’s handing out the smiley faces.

“Interesting Observation” As One who is An Early NSSA Member (from 1979), and who graduated college as An Education Major, I only hope that Most of Today’s Members are not home – schooled, because I am not impressed with most “legitimate (sic) schools, much – less home – schooling. I still can remember seeing Bethany Hamilton on “Smarter Than A Fifth Grader,” and She did not even know that “lunar” referred to The Moon. (So much for being A Surfer who should know about Tides, The Moon, etc…) I refer to Such folks as being “Sharp As A Bowling Ball.” (At least I know that Taylor Pitz is at UCLA….)
