Radioactive Seawater Invading Pacific?

by The Editors on April 14, 2011

Radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is reportedly making its way out into the Pacific Ocean and could be headed to a surf spot near you, according to a story on The Intel Hub. This model created by ASR Limited on April 5, 2011 shows just how it might move on out.

Record levels of Japan nuclear radiation have been found in the Pacific Ocean off the Fukushima, Japan Coast. The radiation is expected carried toward the US by fast-moving currents.

Or, maybe the gigantic floating island of plastic out in the middle of the ocean can suck some of it up for us. That would be good, huh?

How long until Godzilla emerges? Wasn’t he created by radioactivity leaking into the ocean?

Pretty sure he was caused by one of the nukes the US dropped on Japan in WW2. He was supposed to symbolize the danger of nuclear weapons.

But yeah this sucks. That big island of trash might have a silver lining after all.

If surfers really want something to worry about, maybe they should worry about the ASR-built surfing reef at Bournemouth, which local officials closed after they determined it posed a threat to the public: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/8424616/Artificial-surf-reef-in-Bournemouth-closed-to-the-public.html
