Tonight, April 7, 2011 Laguna Beach, California’s 210 AR4T Space will host the opening of a new group photography show featuring the works of Cole Barash, Kevin Zacher, Cheyenne Ellis, Stepanka Peterka, and Lauren Ross titled Silence.

Cheyenne: Silence is something I miss. The clear quiet moments that you get when things are at peace. To be alone with your thoughts and the absence of noise is hard to find in our society and daily lives. Everything around us is so turbulent. The total lack of audible sound is rejuvenating for the senses and the visual representation of that, I hope, therapeutic.
I see this show as a breath of fresh air. A visual perspective from some great minds on what they interpret as quiet. Stepping into moments that make you stop, smile, and hopefully relax for just a moment.
ARTIST BIOS:
By the age of thirteen, Cole Barash had begun to define his vision of the world through the lens of a camera. It is said that a young man is stimulated by the consciousness of how much depends upon his own exertions, and this held true in the awareness and determined pursuit of the craft by adolescent Barash. Now, only a few years later, at age 21, Cole Barash’s work is among the most publicized and respected in the world of snowboarding. From magazine cover shots to international advertising campaigns, the strength and influence of this creative vision is undeniable. He continues to evolve as both professional photographer and as a student of the creative process, by exerting himself at every opportunity. www.colebarash.com

Born and raised in Stowe, Vermont, Lauren Ross grew up on the slopes of Mount Mansfield, where she aspired to become a World Cup alpine skier. She eventually became a member of the United States Ski Team and was recently crowned the 2008 U.S. National Giant Slalom champion.
Lauren’s passion for photography and her lust for travel serve as platforms for fundraising and promoting awareness for causes that are important to her. As a U.S. athlete ambassador, Lauren recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Right to Play, and international humanitarian organization that uses sport to improve health, develop life skills and foster peace for communities in the most disadvantaged areas to the world. www.laurenrossphoto.com

Cheyenne Ellis is a California native, and just what you would expect to meet from a girl who grew up half her life in the mountains of Mammoth Lakes and the other half at the beaches in Malibu. “The ocean and the mountains are a huge inspiration to my work. I find myself using the natural elements and the lifestyle involved with them, as much as possible.” After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Westmont College in Fine Art, she moved on to study at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. It was shortly thereafter, that she would have an opportunity to move to New York, and study under the legendary photographer Irving Penn. After two years of city life and an amazing apprenticeship, Cheyenne set back for her roots in California and began her own career.
Since moving back to Los Angeles, she has shot for such clients as O’Neill, Billabong, Gravis Footwear, Paul Mitchell, Volcom, Paul Mitchell and Pacifico Beer. Her editorial work has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, Women’s Health, Fitness, Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, and Russian Vogue. She continues to capture the lifestyle of youth culture and present intimate portraits of the subjects in front of her lens. Stepanka Peterka grew up immersed in two worlds: a beach community in California and Prague, Czech Republic. While she frequents Prague for family, inspiration and old cameras, her penchant for the wild initiated her love affair with Jackson, Wyoming a few years ago. Today, Stepanka is traveling, photographing, crafting, and hatching art and sustainability projects. www.theartfitness.com

Kevin Zacher began his career with a degree in Photojournalism from Northern Arizona University. He went on to Los Angeles, California whre he worked with the trendsetting Raygun Magazine. His increasing interest and experience in this urban youth culture led to a myriad of opportunities including an exclusive contract with Burton Snowboards. From there he traveled the world and spent the next 10 years documenting the thriving culture of snowboarding, while compiling a library of images that chronicles all aspects of his subjects. At that point, Kevin relocated to Salt Lake City for the duration of the contract where this transient lifestyle landed him snowboard video cameos and global notoriety.
Now back in Los Angeles for several years and repped by Anderson Hopkins, Kevin brings his incredible experience and insight to all editorial and advertising assignments. His client list includes Discover Card, Honda, Holden, Subaru, Toyota, American Express, Nike, SONY, Anheiser-Busch, Burton Snowboards, Coca-Cola, Gravis Shoes, Sony, MTV Quiksilver, Roxy, Nixon Watches, Schwinn, Vans, Boost Mobile, and T-Mobile to name a few. In the last couple of years, he has also added video to his repertoire and is producing spots for his clients as well.
Kevin’s Photography has also appeared in magazines such as The Fader, Interview, Complex, FOAM, ESPN, Esquire, Fortune, Death + Taxes, Nylon, Men’s Health, Menʼs Fitness, Popular Science, and Transworld Snowboarding.
