Snowboarder Dies In Bansko Avalanche

A Finnish snowboarder died today (Thursday, February 24, 2011) in an afternoon avalanche near the Bulgarian winter resort of Bansko, according to a story from the Associated Press.

The town’s mayor said the slide happened Thursday afternoon on the slopes below the Todorka peak. Three other Finnish snowboarders who were behind the man survived the avalanche, including the one who was seriously injured.

The snowboarders reportedly used a cellphone to call for help.
