Stinky Trash Trap Could Slow Dengue Fever

by The Editors on January 3, 2011

Mosquito-Trap-101230-02The world-wide fight against Dengue Fever (the disease that some suggest may have killed Andy Irons) could get a huge boost if scientists at Tulane University are right about their newly designed trap that kills pregnant mosquitos, according to a story on io9.com.

Recently researchers developed a low-tech device shaped like a trash can and doused with a chemical mixture that smells like the decaying matter which draws pregnant mosquitos in. Inside, the mosquitos land on insecticidal fabric, which kills them and any eggs they’ve laid.

If they work these little stinky trash cans seems like a nice addition to the traveling surfer’s quiver.
