After three years of building elegant street courses for their Maloof Money Cups only to tear them down following the events, the Maloof family is hoping to build a permanent park in Orange County to follow through on what they’ve already done in Flushing Meadows New York, according to a story in the Orange County Business Journal.

“We just can’t afford to tear it down anymore,” Joe Maloof said. “I don’t mean that financially.” Maloof, a skateboarding fan, said that to tear it down “makes you sick to your stomach.” “I’m never tearing down another park,” he said. . . A site in Huntington Beach is looking like a leading contender for a permanent 16,000-square-foot skatepark that would host the annual contest. An environmental study is in the early stages.

Huntington Beach could always use another skatepark. We vote for one right on the sand near the pier.

HB absolutely needs and deserves a World-Class skatepark! Joe Maloof has made an offer the City cannot refuse. The City has an obligation to the local skate-industry to secure this most generous opportunity. By providing a permanent park location next to HB Pier, Huntington Beach will become the World renowned Mecca of Surf & Skate contests (i.e. Hurley U.S. Open & The Maloof Money Cup) Ride On……

I completely agree, there is absolutely no reason Huntington Beach does not have a skatepark.. let alone a huge skate paradise plaza. The city has to accept the offer and get moving quick. They won’t regret it as people from all over the states will come to skate it. Also it should be pretty easy to fund it with volcom, hurley, quicksilver, rvca, ect… all are near by. The Maloof Brothers are doing something for skateboarding that has never been done and are really changing the rules on how far the sport can take you. Shutup and Shred!
