Maloof Money Cup Goes Global

by The Editors on May 11, 2010

PgsaThe Maloof Brothers are taking their Maloof Money Cup skate contest to the South African City of Kimberley September 30 – October 2, 2010 according to a release posted on their website.

Maloof and his brother, Gavin, have staged two Maloof Money Cups in Costa Mesa, Calif., and the third is scheduled for August. They’re also preparing for the inaugural Maloof Money Cup New York set for June 5-6 in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The New York contest will feature street competition only, with the winner earning $100,000. . . Joe Maloof said sports officials from South Africa came to last summer’s Maloof Money Cup and expressed interest in holding a similar competition in their country. . . “They loved it,” said Maloof, who added that a deal was quickly worked out. . . “They’re very proud of them hosting the World Cup. It’s a big event for their country,” Maloof said. “They want South Africa to be known as a place for action sports, and for sports like that, skateboarding fits the mold.”

The event will leave Kimberley with a permanent street course and vert ramp. It appears the Maloofs are continuing to listen and do things right.
