A 33-year-old father of two 13-year-old boys and an 11-year-old girl took his kids to the Denver Skatepark on Wednesday night (April 14, 2010) and ended up getting beaten by a crowd of skateboarders, according to a story on CBS4Denver.

Police say more than two dozen skateboarders joined in the melee, striking the father with skateboards. The victim received a head injury, a fractured back vertebrae and a broken elbow.

The Denver Post has more of the story of a man known only as Dave:

After about 30 minutes Dave watched as a group chased an individual across the park. As a pursuer ran by, Dave asked: “What’s going on?” . . The man turned to Dave, cursed at him, and told him to leave. . . The words had just passed from the man’s mouth when Dave was slammed with a skateboard from behind, he said. . . “I guess just me asking was enough for them to clock me,” Dave said. . . Immediately, others joined in and started beating Dave with skateboards. A friend of Dave’s who was there tried to help him, and he also was attacked. . . The friend’s injuries were not as serious.

Dave, who told The Post he’s been “going to the skatepark for years” drove his kids home and then drove himself to Lutheran Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

Place is rough. No doubt.

Skateboarding is not a crime. But being an idiot with a skateboard is.

Oh yeah, that’s so frickin hardcore… bunch of Aholes without brains ruining skateboarding for everyone else. Now, the city will close the park, put more No Skateboarding signs up and everyone will continue to stereotype skateboarders as losers and crooks…way to go dipsh!#s! I hope they find everyone of those kids and beat them with a Aspen tree stick like their Daddy shoulda done years ago, then throw them in jail for a while. Maybe it’s not too late for them to learn to respect others.

Some stupid skate crew re-living the scene from the film “Kids”. Lame. Being a native from Denver, Colorado and skating this park for years, this comes as a shock and a true disappointment. They won’t close this park, but now it gives the police more of a reason to patrol and the city to open and enforce new regulations… That’s all we need, more rules. By the way, anyone talking down on Denver and this skatepark obviously knows nothing about it… Denver is Rad and these kids are the exception.

good way to ruin your park.

Man, If that were my local park there’d be a witch hunt. That place looks so sick, clean out the trash and protect your scene if you want to keep it. If you don’t want the city and cops in your face, take a stance and don’t let it be a “cool place to hang” for idiots that don’t skate. When I was a kid the older dudes took care of the scene. If you didn’t skate, they made it known that you weren’t welcome to hang out and smoke or whatever.

It’s ok, they can fill in those big ugly holes with dirt and pave it over for some tennis courts and some basket ball courts. I was even thinking a small playground.

Violence, drugs and gang activity have always been at Denver park. The park will never be taken from us. The dad who was beaten was a mountain boarder and a dick, and was always running into people and claiming they got in his way. His story is fallacy. He was talking shit to people he should not have been talking shit to and stuck his nose in business that was not his own. Not only that, but he failed to mention that he swung first AND ON A MINOR NO LESS. That is when the barrage of skaters destroyed him. I’m not saying what happened was right but the story he told was not what actually happened. Talk shit and get your ass STUCK UP.

DPL bitch.

That place is rad. I have been skating Denver for 5 years. People are skating hard, venting, trying new shit, hanging with friends. If a guy on a mountain board shows up and starts getting in people’s way, this awesome place suddenly becomes less awesome and pisses off the people who really belong there. I am not saying what happened is right, but the guy was asking to get his ass beaten without actually asking. Deal with it Denver, you will never to be able to tame raw emotion, dozing the park would be stupid If your style is out of control do not assume people will not want to kick your ass.

blitz May 31, 2011 at 2:21 pm

what the hell is this guy bitching about . Since when have skaters and punks ever not thrown a fist when a dipshit deserves it. If said dumbass would have minded his own and not concerned himself with the ass kicking that was not his own he would not have been beaten. If he would not have stuck his soon to be busted nose in on a bit of street justice he would not have a story to tell, THE END.
