Quiksilver Giving It Away Now

by The Editors on November 13, 2009

Quiks Logo09We’ve always wondered where all the Quiksilver and Roxy overstock goes. And now we know at least part of the story. Some of it ends up in the California Central Valley town of Visalia, according to a story in the Visalia Times Delta.

Visalia school psychologist Ray Miller has been helping students put clothes on their backs and shoes on their feet for more than a year. . . Miller, who had been going to Southern California to get clothes from Quiksilver’s warehouse at a discounted price, learned recently that the retailer would donate eight pallets full of shirts, shorts, pillows and accessories for students.

It’s nice that $152,000 worth of unwanted clothes could find a good home, no?

lot of brands have been donating to charity (at least here in europe) but they don’t want it to be know to avoid: depreciating the “value” of the brand, and having rich kids at charity to get their latests skate/snow gear for free…

There is a good side to this and a bad side. Its great to see kids in need get something nice to wear (kudo’s to the man spearheading that) but for the core shop owners its sending a message that business is facing critical and crucial times of survival.
