Police in John Cardiel’s home town of Sacramento, California have been increasingly harassing fixed gear bike riders for breaking a state law that requires brakes on bikes. When the Sacramento News & Review did a story on the issue they went to Cardiel for the straight scoop.
John Cardiel dashed down Ninth Street on his fixed-gear bike, tearing southward in the right-hand lane, when he heard yelling, which grew louder and closer. He looked over his shoulder and saw two Sacramento police officers on bikes trailing him, hollering, “Stop!” . . . Cardiel explains that he “skidded to an immediate stop.” Then, he describes that the cops applied their hand brakes and slid past him. “One guy almost fell over. I had more control than they did,” Cardiel remembers.
Cards ended up with a $25 fix-it ticket and the police continued their war on everything that isn’t motorized and gas guzzling.

Yeah Cards! Show those Pig-skins how to stop on a dime. I bet they had inferior caliper brakes.
This feels like a story from the old days of snowboard certification at resorts. I got the same lip from ski patrol who slid right past me, trying to stop when I did.
you should just put a brake lever on for “looks” -not actually working but it might fool some pigs.
keep going…blame the ear buds for not stopping.
cards=giant.
all hail cardiel!
I saw Cards in Sac rollin down the street last week!!! it’s like the Cop’s dont want anyone to have any fun anymore.
