DiecutsYobeat.com one of our favorite independent voices in snowboard media got into a little scuffle with some people at Burton Snowboards recently (read all about it right here).

The upshot is that Yobeat.com got a bunch of traffic and now they’re going to hand out some stickers, according to a post on jaredsouney.com:

So, the deal is, buy a snowboard from now through the end of November, and send us a copy of your receipt and we’ll send you free YoBeat stickers. They might be die-cuts, they might be screen prints, they might be an assortment of both. What’s the catch? It can’t be a Burton Snowboard. Anything else will fly, even their subsidiaries like Forum who we quite enjoy. Just no Burtons.

But that’s not all people who write in for free stickers also get entered in a drawing for free gear from the Yobeat.com product reviews.

It’s nice to see the new independent media up on their feet rather than groveling down on their knees, isn’t it?

Let me be the first to say- Burton is whacked. Yobeat will prevail!

weak. what a great “media site”. give me a break you’re a bunch of boring nerds that don’t matter. high fives way to stick to the man.

Always funny how people care enough to post that no one cares! thanks for the post guys.

    Dummyville,

I would argue you are correct, only the flaw in that statement is that all of our posts on the matter are well on there way to having more unique views than magazines have print circulation in A matte of a couple days. And it hasn’t slowed down. We’re having fun with it and people are watching. We’re also not hiding behind anonymous we handles. If we were insignificant you wouldn’t have commented.

I took this screenshot yesterday of this week’s analytics on my personal site. Not including YoBeat and all the other sites that wrote about it. 5000 plus views on it in two days. No one has noticed I guess! http://twitpic.com/l04jl

Whats up with getting down on Burton all the time. We should be stoked our industry leader is a core snowboard company and not someone who tried to buy their way in like Nike, Salomon, Rossi…

DB, core snowboard company? are you serious?

    What is core anyway?

I am with Yobeat on this one!!! Burton is so big that they seem multi-sided and lately their bad sides have been showing a lot more than their good sides.

However, I will say I was stoked that Burton was one of the few companies that had the balls to say fuck you to Alta,Deer Valley and Taos and stood up for snowboarding when everyone else was a bunch of pussies about the issue. What is it going to take for Burton to get its mojo back? I would like to see companies like Rossi, Salamon, etc.. follow Burton’s lead and say FUCK YOU to those skier only resorts. Or maybe we should all only buy from snowboarder only companies to begin with? I still kinda think Burton still has a sould somewhere in there, but it may take some time for them to find it again.

Yeah core was maybe not the right word for it, but still.. Burton got to big to be cool I guess..

if core = no skiers, then yes burton is core as they turned down the potential cash of marketing Red, Anon, etc. to skiers when they dropped their entire skier team.

i’d just like to say kudos to YoBeat for their “alternative” campaign. i don’t 100% agree with the motivation (can’t we all just get along and hug it out)but i applaud the execution. just a reminder, make sure that people send in copies of those receipts with the sensitive info like credit card digits blacked out.

    1. they’ll need their receipts for any warranty, return issues
    2. you don’t want to be responsible/liable for any potential credit card fraud issues

    sincerely,

    your local nervous nelly

They just have to send a copy of the receipt not the original, and of course black out the info. However Most modern credit card systems black out the number anyway.

Thanks for all the great response so far an the support from the shops. Stoked people are into it.
