Elephant x Dimebag Darrell

by The Editors on April 20, 2012

Mike Vallely has just released a Dimebag Darrell tribute Elephant skateboard along with Twisted, and unreleased Dimebag track, according to a story on Revolver Mag.

“Mike is the perfect person to capture the spirit of Dime,” says Haney, “with his rebellious ‘stand up for your family and by your friends’ attitude and always shooting straight from the heart. Mike and Dime are two peas in a pod—rock stars and legends in two different realms, but not so different…entwined with the same ferocious intensity and presence in each of their performances and, at the same time, they both bear the most genuine of gentle hearts… I am very honored to have Elephant Brand Skateboards represent another passion of Darrell’s—skating!”

If you liked Pantera, you’ll love this board apparently.

Gretchen Bleiler: Sexiest Environmentalist

by The Editors on April 19, 2012

Gretchen-Bleiler-450 0Rodale, the publisher of fitness porn mags like Men’s Health, Bicycling and Runner’s World, made a their list of the Top 50 Sexiest Environmentalist and at the top of their list? That’s right, Gretchen Bleiler. Here’s what they say:

This Olympic snowboarder doesn’t just spend time on snow-capped mountains; she crusades to save them. A key board member of Protect Our Winters, or POW, Bleiler engages the winter sports community and Congress to help combat climate change by advocating for regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. After all, if there’s no snow, there’s no snowboarding.

Because nothing is sexier than a easy to clean, BPA free, toxin free Alex water bottle.

Dylan Rieder On Energy Drink Sponsorship

by The Editors on April 19, 2012

6Dc9Ce8Af8233579B7732Ca42D2A26Db“Fuck. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to wear one of those logos on my forehead. Their shit is fucked. It’s cool for those guys; they make a lot of money. I despise logos and I think it’s contractual if you sign up for one of those things that every time you’re on your board you have to have one of their logos near or on your body; it’s kind of retarded. They make little stickers that look like your shirt tags and you’re supposed to put them on you. It’s retarded. I don’t understand the Nascar outfit. The whole race car uniform shit just blows my mind. But all those dudes are rich now so kudos to them.”

Shaun White Rubs Up Against Bobby De Niro

by The Editors on April 19, 2012

Five-Year-Engagement-April19-009

It seems to us that the toughest part about being a celebrity would be attending all the events that you have nothing to do with but have to attend because you’re a celebrity and there are celebrity photographers there to take your celebrity photo so it can be included on celebrity websites and celebrity TV shows.

Take last night for instance (April 18, 2012). Shaun White attended the premiere of a movie called Five-Year Engagement at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. He got all dressed up. He wore a black suit with a black tie. And smiled for the cameras standing next to Robert De Niro.

What could possibly bring Shaun White and Bobby De Niro together? Or, yeah. They’re both represented by Creative Artists Agency. Just think how stoked their agents are because being a celebrity and getting celebrity endorsements requires staying a celebrity. And the way you stay a celebrity is by attending celebrity events where there are celebrity photographers who take your photo so it can be included on celebrity websites and. . . Wait, did we say that already? What a vicious circle fame is.

Sustainable Surf Profiled In Forbes

by The Editors on April 19, 2012

0417 Sustainable-Surf-Michael-Stewart 600Sustainable Surf’s Michael Stewart and Kevin Whilden get profiled in Forbes Magazine for their work is attempting to green up the toxic surf industry.

The San Francisco social entrepreneurs aim to create an industry certification standard for environmentally friendly surfboards to give surfers, from pros to weekend wave warriors, a scientifically sound green choice. Surfboards are just a $150 million business in the U.S., but for Stewart and his San Clemente-based cofounder, Kevin Whilden, the iconic symbol of the sport is a Trojan horse to make the $7 billion surf industry and the lifestyles of millions of surfers more sustainable. “If we can green up the surfboard then we can green up surfers,” says Stewart, 42, a lifelong surfer who has spent his recent career evaluating the carbon footprint of everything from Motorola cellphones to Volkswagens.
