On a trip back to the US after playing Korea with Metallica, Tool’s Adam Jones was in the Honolulu airport when he felt a tap on his shoulder according to an interview in Guitar World’s April 20, 2009 issue.
After we landed, I was getting my luggage and I felt this tap on my shoulder. It was Kirk [Hammett, Metallica’s guitarist], and he said, ‘Are you the guitarist in Tool? I love your band. Would you like to come to dinner?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah!'” . . . “He lent me a long board and took me out to this spot where all the old-timers surf. I’m from California, so I’ve never had to paddle 30 minutes anywhere. [laughs] And you have to go out real far in Waikiki to catch the good waves. My arms were getting so tired, and I was so worried I was gonna look like a pussy!”
We all know the feeling Adam, we just never talk about it.

Rick Fork, a.k.a. Rick Froberg was a quiet guy with a devious sense of humor when he worked in the back room at Transworld Media. But all that changed when he got on stage with his bands Drive Like Jehu, Pitchfork and Hot Snakes.
The contrast between the two was shocking and we never could figure out how all those heavy sounds could came out of such a thin, quiet, honestly nice guy.
Froberg’s art shares some of the same qualities as his music—it’s bold, skilled, sinister and primal, yet intelligent, referential and nuanced. He genre-hops with ease; from digital drawings to acrylic paint to heavy ink and back again, creating stark images of character collages, WWII-era comic figures and Dali-esque cartoon landscapes.
Filter magazine checks in with Froberg in an interview about art, music, and the realities of getting paid.

The biggest party of SIA09 was the Skullcandy Snoop Dogg show in Rain at The Palms Hotel and Casino last night (Thursday January 29, 2009). Rick Alden and his crew handed out twice as many tickets as there were room for in the club. This resulted in a line 400 people deep for two hours and near rioting at the entrance of Rain.
After hanging around The Palms for half an hour getting more bummed by the minute we finally got an extra special Sessions miracle (Thanks, Larry and Jessica) and the next thing we knew we were sitting next to Session owner Joel Gomez on the couch of his VIP suite looking down on a crowd of over 2,000 people.
Mix Master Mike got the party started and then around 1:30 AM Snoop Dogg came on and with reminded everyone why he sells so much music.

Tony Hawk and DJ Jason Bentley go over some of Tony’s favorite songs while Tony gives the background behind why he likes them so much. We swear we’ve heard this show before, but maybe it’s just because we have the same taste in music. Sad, we know.
1.) Devo- Gut Feeling
2.) Dead Kennedys – Police Truck
3.) Frank Black – If it Takes All Night
4.) The Clash – Safe European Home
5.) Nine Inch Nails – 1,000,000

It’s a party. It’s an art show. And the money is going to a good cause. Plus, Bob looks like he could still use a Tijuana Panthers crew cut, baby.
