Surfing
On Monday morning at 9:17 AM, April 29, 2013 Gotcha founder and ourCaste backer Michael Tomson, 58, was reportedly arrested “on suspicion of driving under the influence and on suspicion of cocaine possession” and charged with “two felony counts of DUI and possession of a controlled substance” after getting involved in a traffic accident in Laguna Beach, California, according to the LA Times.
Tomson posted $100,000 bail and was released. . . A caller reported a traffic collision involving a 2008 Mercedes E550 and a 2008 Nissan Rogue at 9:17 a.m. Monday at Glenneyre and Calliope streets in Laguna Beach. . . Tomson, who was driving the Mercedes, was heading south on Glenneyre when he rear-ended the Nissan being driven by a 65-year-old woman from Santa Ana, police said. . . The woman was hospitalized for minor to moderate injuries.
Sounds like a bad day all around and we’re bummed for everyone involved. Luckily, no one was more seriously injured.

Beginning May 3, 2013 San Diego surf shop Aloha Sunday Supply Company in collaboration with Starbucks Doubleshot (the energy drink for coffee drinkers?) is presenting Art Of The Craft, a one-week pop-up surfboard gallery featuring the work of San Diego Shaper Josh Oldenburg.
After receiving his first surfboard in junior high, a 7’2 round nose egg with a thruster fin set up, Josh Oldenburg knew that surfing was in his future. His first industry job was gluing blanks for Mac King Foam at Pacific Glassing where he learned that true craftsmanship is the ability to create multiple, flawless boards at one time. This belief inspired Josh to start his own business shaping surfboards, and in 2008, he opened Josh Oldenburg Surfboards, and independent surfboard shaping company in San Diego, California.
Josh along with Santa Cruz, California based wood surfboard shaper Martijn Stiphout will also be featured in a three part video series titled Art of The Craft premiering May 3. Hey, if Seattle’s retail coffee monster wants to help expose a couple quality surfboard shapers, who are we to argue.
The opening reception at Aloha Sunday begins at 6:30 PM on Friday, May 3, 2013. Aloha Sunday is located at 3118 University Ave. in San Deigo California.

After all the excitement about The Boardroom (the consumer surf show formerly known as Sacred Craft) joining the grand parade at the 2013 US Open of Surfing on the sand in Huntington Beach, California, it now won’t happen thanks to US Open event owner IMG’s reported inability to “permit GLM (Boardroom’s owner) to charge admission to the consumer component of a planned trade-plus-consumer.”
“Every year, IMG tries to bring something different to the US Open of Surfing,” says James Leitz SVP of IMG. “For 2013, in support of Vans’ inclusive directive, we teamed up with GLM to bring in The Boardroom. This was a game changer for our industry. A massive trade show footprint on the beach with both B2B and B2C components. Unfortunately, like some big ideas, things just don’t work out. I am confident that The Boardroom will continue to be a huge success.”
So just like that The Boardroom is back on its own and scheduled for October 5 – 6, 2013 at the OC Fair & Events Center. Thanks for playing. For the official word from GLM follow the jump.

This Friday night, April 26, 2013 surf legends Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones will be attending the US premiere of Storm Surfers 3D on the Giant Titan XC Screen at The Ward 16 Theaters in Honolulu (at 7 PM and 10 PM screenings) and it goes a little something like this:
