The Mill Valley Surf Film Festival is rolling into its second year of existence September 13-14, 2013 with Fred Water as a sponsor.
The event brings together the Bay Area surf community in Mill Valley to enjoy short and feature surf films, art, listen to music and revel in the magic of the ocean. . . The films presented at the Mill Valley Surf Film Festival will be accompanied by concerts, art and ocean related charities.

Hard to believe that next week ASP World Tour stops off in Southern California for The Hurley Pro at Trestles. All the locals have to say is that they certainly hope the surf picks up because it’s been pretty bad lately. The contest runs from September 15 to 21, 2013 at SoCal legendary surf spot and ASP World Champion Joel Parkinson is looking forward to it apparently.
“I love Trestles,” Parkinson said. “It’s such a high performance wave and I think everyone acknowledges that, but it’s also a great ‘flow’ wave. It’s a great wave to flow your turns together and choreograph a wave and make it look great from beginning to end. Trestles – when it’s on – is the kind of wave where everyone looks good. In terms of results, Kelly (Slater) and Mick (Fanning) are always good there, Taj (Burrow) and Jordy (Smith) will be in the mix, and I reckon Gabe (Medina) and Julian (Wilson) are big chances as well.”

According to a post on Bodyboard Museum, the lead singer was Brett Young:
As a member of the Skid Kids his outlaw antics were often looked down on by b/b heirachy. Youngy didn’t care too much and despised the local comp scene that frothed over contests in 1ft waves at Manly. Youngy was all about pulling into gnarly pits and had the same head pumping style as Pat Caldwell. Brett had tongues wagging when he performed a pop song in the video nasty Rip The Pit. He was highly criticized for his role and eventually packed his bags to move to Japan where he worked promoting his sponsor Manta. It was in Japan that BY was killed when the car he was driving on a express lane highway crashed. Today he is remembered with the annual Brett Young Trials part of The Shark Island Challenge.

Tyler Hatzikian has over 25-years of commitment to improving his skills as both a shaper and glasser. Tyler’s surfboards are not only far from replica, they are developing a reputation of being iconic on their own. He is proud to carry on the planer after following the footsteps of the legendary craftsmen of his local surf community in the South Bay.
The collection sounds right on target. Now we just have to survive the winter before we get our hands on it.

Leatherman, makers of the fine folding multi-tools favored by Hollywood grips and handymen alike, has apparently been working with Signal Snowboards, Girl Skateboards, and Korduroy.TV on a new selection of multi-tools designed specifically for snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing. The snowboarding tools are already out, but here’s a little sneak on the skate tools:
The Grind and Jam skate tools are designed specifically for assembling and maintaining a board—adjusting/setting trucks, tightening bolts, filing grip tape, etc.—and fall into the company’s PocketTool line. The Jam can be used in conjunction with the Leatherman Style® PS mini-multi-tool, by just snapping it into the frame of the Jam. These single-piece tools are lightweight, fit easily in a pocket, or clip onto a belt loop. Users can skate with the tools on, or clip them to a bag. In addition to the pocket tools, Leatherman will also be releasing a black pocket knife set, one with a blade only and the other with an integrated set of screwdrivers. A slim swell forecast saw the 2013 Billabong Pro Tahiti blast on all the way to the finish yesterday (August 18, 2013) in barreling four to six-foot surf at Teahupo’o. And with the help of at least one interesting call from the tower Adrian Buchan was able to better Kelly Slater by 1.04 points to win his second ever WCT event.
“I can’t believe it,” Buchan said. “Kelly (Slater) is incredible and I thought he snatched it for me at the end. I couldn’t go right…but I probably should have. I still can’t believe it. It hasn’t sunk in. What an incredible day though. The sun came out during the last five minutes and it’s all just really special right now.”
With his second place finish, Kelly Slater moved back into lead of the ASP World Tour Rankings, you know, where he’s been for most of his seemingly endless career. Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson are now in second and third. For the official word from the ASP, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
