The Snow Industries America has placed their business-to-business resources online at a special website called SnowSportsB2B.org. Hard to believe all this info wasn’t already online, but it is nice of SIA to join the web revolution, isn’t it?
“We have literally hundreds of innovative and cost-effective business service members,” says Tom Davis, SIA’s supporting membership sales and marketing manager. “SnowSportsB2B.org is a streamlined way for brands, retailers, resorts and all industry professionals to conduct their vendor searches. Knowing all of their vendor options helps them find the most productive business relationships.”
Yes, it does make sense. For the official word from SIA, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Burton Snowboards continues on their “put a rapper on it” program with a new partnership with Pharrell Williams and Bionic Yarn.
Featuring unique Peruvian-inspired designs, bright primary colors and vintage stripes, the new collection is created exclusively with BIONIC Yarn, an incredible thread that uses 40-45% recycled content and is 400% stronger than conventional yarns.
Pharrell looks pretty stoked on that jacket, doesn’t he? They’re no leather sweatpants, but we’re guessing this is just one more fashion/rap deal that will piss Kanye West off. For the official word from Burton, follow the jump.

Gretchen Bleiler is now staring on her own label of a limited edition bottle of Muscle Milk.
This is the first time the company has featured a female athlete on limited edition packaging. The 14 oz. bottle can be found at retail outlets throughout Colorado through the rest of the year and is available in Vanilla Crème flavor. A portion of the proceeds from this bottle will benefit Protect Our Winters in the fight against climate change.
Oddly, all you can see of Gretchen is her goggles, helmet and scarf, but we’d know that frontside air anywhere.

The 686 crew made it up to Mammoth on opening weekend and got a little goodness. Here’s an edit to prove it. Mike Grey, Riley Nickerson, Pat McCarthy, Sammy Luebke, Madison Eisworth, Luke Haddock, and Ryan Tarbel hit the early Mammoth rails every which way.

Nothing again Winter Park, we’ve had some good days there, but we’re pretty stoked that the SIA On-Snow Demo has moved to Copper Mountain this year on February 3-4, 2014. In fact, we’re so into it that we might even attend.
“Copper’s fantastic terrain, setting and amenities make is a great place for everyone-reps, buyers, suppliers, media, industry partners-to gather after the SIA Snow Show,” said David Ingemie, SIA president. “Whether you want to test gear for your shop, shred with your friends, or some of both – join us!”
We agree. Follow the jump for the official word from the SIA. [click to continue…]

Last night (November 7, 2013) Mervin Manufacturing (parent company of Gnu and Lib Tech) released the official news that they have been purchased by Altamont Capital Partners (guess that whole Extreme Holdings, Inc. thing was short-term).
Under Altamont’s ownership, Mervin will operate as an independent, standalone company. There will be continuity across all areas of the company, including leadership and staffing, manufacturing, sales and marketing. Mervin has entered in to a license agreement with Quiksilver to produce and distribute Roxy branded snowboards, bindings and skateboards. The relationship will work similarly to how it has in the past, with Roxy sharing brand marketing and athletes and Mervin designing and building the snowboards in the USA, near Canada.
Reports put that sale at around $51 million. Not bad for a company that was once exchanged for a Volkswagon transmission. For the official word from Mervin (and co-founder Mike Olson) follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Mammoth Mountain opened today, November 7, 2013, and kicked off the 2013-14 season in style. Guess who was on the first chair? We have no idea (the banner was in the way). But we know they weren’t a bunch of lazy ass, sleepin’ in skiers. Skiers haven’t gotten first chair at Mammoth in what a decade? The first hundred people in line got FREE lift tickets as well. That’s worth sleeping in the snow for, right? Those who made out were treated to 12-18 inches of snow, three lifts running and six runs to slide on. Wish you were there, huh?

Yes, pro snowboarders get paid to wear the clothes they wear, but sometimes it’s interesting to hear them explain just why they like to wear what they wear. In this edit Alex Yoder explains the Patagonia Untracked Kit and he makes it sound pretty good.

Spy is rolling out its third collab with The Seventh Letter and this time the Platoon goggle features the art of Jersey Joe, aka RIME.
RIME’s complex characters—inspired by Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, Looney Tunes, and comic strips—are intended to live in the grittiness of the outdoors rather than a sterile gallery, making the Platoon the perfect open air canvas for his lines. With classic graffiti style and an irreverent approach to everything he does, the SPY + RIME Platoon is part of the ever-evolving curation between the world-renowned Seventh Letter Crew and SPY.
It’s like subway cars on your head. . . follow the jump for the official word from Spy. [click to continue…]
