Neither of the guys in the photo above are Tim Swart, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t stoked to pass on the news that Pretty Great Company (the parent of SLVDR, Bonfire, Sessions, and Nikita) has just named the founder and former creative director of UNIV as their new marketing director.
“Based off the fact that Tim was SLVDR’s first dealer, he has a deep history with the brand. With his decades of snowboarding he has lived all facets of the snow industry. Also with his marketing and creative experience from start-ups to bigger brands, Tim is a solid asset to lead our marketing efforts for the brands,” says Rob Myers, Pretty Great President.

Everyone’s favorite graphic designer, Aaron Draplin, the big man who turns Photoshop layers into music and clean logos into lead guitar sits down with Creative Boomfor and interview. DDC fans have heard this all before, but it never really gets old to hear Aaron lay down the truth.
When I started snowboarding, it was daring, and a climate where skiers ruled the hill. And we got messed with. But we made our way, gear, tricks and, my favourite, our own attitude. And all these years later? Those turd skiers have finally caught on to what we showed them. Ha! This has worked its way into my work in many ways. It taught me to be fearless, dumb and to go for it, if it felt right.”
Good advice for any endeavor. If you’d like more of that then you really should buy his book Pretty Much Everythingor click the link for the rest of the interview.
Oakley has landed slopestyle gold medalist Sage Kotsenburg in a “multi-year partnership.” Sage will be wearing everything Oakley including goggles, outerwear, eyewear, helmets, and most likely some stuff they haven’t even invented yet.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sage to the Oakley family. Sage embodies the Oakley brand as an athlete looking to push the limits of what is possible,” said Cuan Petersen, Oakley’s Vice President of Sports Marketing. “For decades, we have created industry leading eyewear, goggles, outerwear, and most recently helmets, for some of the most recognized snow athletes in the world. We look forward to pushing our innovations and technologies forward in partnership with Sage.”
Maybe Oakley will even pay him enough so he can drop one of his others sponsors. For the official word from Oakley, please follow the jump.
The SnowSports Industries of America today announced that they are packing up their offices in McLean, Virginia and heading west to shack up near the USSA in Park City, Utah.
“This relocation is a necessary step to keep SIA at the core of our industry and is a strong indicator of the direction we are taking with the organization’s future,” said SIA President Nick Sargent. “This move allows us the ability to be closer to our members and other industry stakeholders, while leveraging the synergies found in a snow sports community to develop new programs and strategies for positive industry growth. In addition to these significant business benefits, having the opportunity to ski and ride the Greatest Snow On Earth is a nice perk.”
Anything that makes anyone’s travel time shorter is a great thing. And having a snow industry association near such amazing snow is even better. Now, if they’d just move the SIA Trade Show with them we’d be even happier. The move will be made in August 2016. For the official word from the SIA, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]
