The Six Figure Heli Pass

by The Editors on November 2, 2008

Loneskier-Card

The Great Conadian Heli-Skiing company has what we think is the perfect season pass for time of economic uncertainty Their platinum pass costs $100,000 and is good for all you can ride heli access plus a single room in the lodge whenever you want it. The pass is transferable, but only one person can use it at a time.

We’re thinking if we can get nine friends go in on it together on this. . .

It’s Snowing At Mammoth Today

by The Editors on October 31, 2008

Daily103108

How’s that for a nice Stump Alley costume on Halloween? SoCal needs to get their gear ready, because with the storms stacking up off the Pacific it looks like Mammoth Mountain’s opening day 08/09 could be only days away: literally. Stay tuned.

Quik Getting 60% Less For Rossignol

by The Editors on October 31, 2008

In its original sales announcement in August 2008, Quiksilver was reportedly unloading Rossignol to Chartreuse & Mont Blanc for EU75 million in cash and EUR25 million sellers note (or a total of EUR100 million). But that was in the days before the crash. Now the deal, which is supposed to close “in early November,” looks quite different.

. . . the parties agreed to recast the terms of the sale due to the recent challenges in the global credit markets. The revised transaction reduces the cash payment to Quiksilver upon closing from 75 million to 30 million and reduces the seller’s note from 25 million to 10 million.

So, the price former Rossignol CEO Bruno Cercley is now paying for the company is only EUR40 million. That’s a 60 percent discount after only two months. How’s that for a company for which Quiksilver originally paid $320 million?

O’Neill’s UK Distributor Pulling Out

by The Editors on October 31, 2008

Citing weak sales of surf and snowboard gear in the UK, O’Neill’s exclusive UK distributor Blacks Leisure has reportedly begun talks to pull out of the deal with the surf company.

The Northampton, England-based company plans to end the O’Neill contract in January, Chief Executive Officer Neil Gillis said today in a telephone interview.

Wonder if that drop in sales had anything to do with the issues surrounding the company’s firing of Darren Spurling back in May?

The Active Pay-To-Shop Sale

by The Editors on October 31, 2008

Active Ride Shop has a pretty good deal going here. Much to the chagrin of other SoCal retailers, they’re having a huge warehouse sale tomorrow November 1, 2008 at 12087 Landon Drive in Mira Loma, California.

Interestingly, customers must pay $10 to get in to shop. The price includes a “Free Mtn High Lift Ticket,” but that’s only “while supplies last.”

Sounds a little like the CostCo model. Maybe Shane should start selling memberships. . .

Volcom Revenue Up 23 Percent

by The Editors on October 31, 2008

Volcom-PinkVolcom released it’s third quarter financial results yesterday and despite an economy in turmoil, the company has increased total consolidated revenues by 23 percent. Wooly is pretty happy about it.

Our solid third-quarter performance is testament to the strength of the Volcom brand and our team amid a challenging retail environment,” said Richard Woolcott, Volcom’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Managing our business with discipline, commitment and focus is essential during these times of economic uncertainty, and we strongly believe that our current position as an industry leader and our healthy balance sheet will empower Volcom over the long term.”

Nuding Up In Finland’s New Suandola

by The Editors on October 30, 2008

Saundola

We can’t even count the times when we’ve been stuck a lift freezing our asses off during a monster Sierra storm and thought, “Wouldn’t it be great to be sweating it out with two naked Fins in a sauna right now?”

Now we can. And you can to if you visit Ylläs, a resort in the Lapland Province of Finland. They apparently have replaced one of the cars on their gondola with a sauna car and nudity is recommended. You listening Mammoth?

Manuela Laura Pesko Retires?

by The Editors on October 30, 2008

We are blown away by how little we know about the FIS Snowboard World Cup. It’s like some kind of parallel snowboard universe. But apparently, Manuela Laura Pesko is the current FIS World Cup Halfpipe Champion and she has recently announced her retirement from competitive snowboarding.

I want to stop as the current world champion in halfpipe and at the high point in my competitive career,” Pesko said on her official Web site. “I have received interesting film and advertising contracts from my sponsors that offer me a second sporting career.”

We only have one question: who is she?

The Green Cowboy Teaching College?

by The Editors on October 29, 2008

Ruhter

He’s come a long way since the days of South Shore debauchery, and now Forum staff photographer Ian Ruhter is giving lectures. On Saturday, October 25. 2008 Ian along with photographer Chris Wellhausen and cinematographer Kyle Schwartz spoke to students and snowboard fans at the Lake Tahoe Community College.

The night began with an Artist reception with Fine Art prints on display, and concluded with a visual presentation by each artist on a 20 x 30 foot screen in the Duke Theater. Ian broke down to the audience his philosophies of Art and how he maintains that integrity principle when managing large advertising campaigns.

We’re proud of Ian. Nice work. Almost makes us tear up a little. . .
