Hot Dawg’s & Handrails Is Dangerzoned

by The Editors on September 21, 2010

The Annual Bear Mountain Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails event on Saturday September 18, 2010 was a reminder that Tahoe Dangerzone star Nick Visconti isn’t just another sports model with a pretty face, pleasing physique, and melodious singing voice. No, he’s a real-deal rail slayer.

“I felt like I rode hard and landed progressive and creative tricks on each feature,” says Nick Visconti. “The level of riding was amazing. Literally on another level. Any one of the competitors could have taken first because everyone was destroying it.”

Follow the jump for evidence of Arbor Snowboard’s love for their sponsosed rider.

USSA Adds Skiing To Snowboard Tour

by The Editors on September 12, 2010

Ussa LogoThe United States Ski and Snowboard Association announced today that they will be adding “freeriding” to the US Revolution Snowboard Tour. Apparently, the word “freeriding” means “skiing” in the completely confused world of snow sports governing organization speak.

“After six years building the U.S. Revolution Tour as the premier mid-level snowboard contest, we recognized the opportunity to grow the series as part of our development within freeride,” said Snowboard and Freeride Director Jeremy Forster. “With the possibility of slopestyle snowboarding and halfpipe skiing being included in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, beginning to conduct these events together and share resources makes sense. . . . “The host resorts have been stoked on the direction along with positive feedback from the freeride community. Hopefully, the athletes will have fun competing together and it will be a great season for the Revolution Tour.”

Looks like skiing is going to continue riding snowboarding coat-tails for the foreseeable future. How annoying is that? There is nothing wrong with skiing. It just isn’t snowboarding and shouldn’t be snowboarding. Putting skiing and snowboarding together in one event harms the images of both sports (not that we care about skiing’s image). But the USSA will never understand that because they’re too busy saving money on their national tour.

Snowboardcross: The Most Dangerous Game

by The Editors on September 8, 2010

Aleqm5Gcutzwy9Xb2Tjtuxltlyzltr J0QAccording to a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine the “most hazardous” event at the Vancouver Olympics was snowboardcross where nearly “75 per cent of female athletes sustained injuries during the rough-and-tumble races.” But it was so much fun to watch.

“Overall, we are a little concerned about the increasing number of injuries that are not just minor,” International Olympic Committee medical commission head Arne Ljungqvist told The Associated Press on Monday. “Some of this can be regulated by stricter rules.”

We always through it was Roller Derby on snow.
