The Winter X Games hype is beginning to build and Spy Optic is apparently in on the program as the title eyewear sponsor of Winter X Games 2012.
“The SPY crew is amping on this sponsorship because it properly underscores our commitment to snow sports generally and at the same time allows us to back the tremendous talent we have on our snow team roster,” says Kevin Casillo, SPY marketing manager. “Our snowboarders, skiers and snowmobilers put a lot of preparation and training toward this contest so we’re stoked to help make the X Games rad for them and the fans in attendance.”
This sponsorship will obviously allow Spy to “activate” on site with all the Aspen locals who crowd the base lodge to catch all the action. The games begin tomorrow (on cable) with the snowboard street final. (Do people still have cable?) Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]

Transworld Media announced today that it has promoted former Director of Video and Photography Nick Hamilton to the position of Content Director of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine.
TransWorld Media’s Editorial Director Rob Campbell commented, “There are few people in this industry who have the kind of professionalism and aptitude for understanding the ‘big picture’ like Nick does. From conceptualization to execution, he can make it all happen.”
Hamilton is apparently ready for the task (be it with a somewhat smaller staff after the exit of editor Annie Fast at the end of 2011).
“I am very excited for this opportunity and am ready to take on new challenges as we continue to expand our brand,” Hamilton said. “It is really important for us as a media company to adapt to change constantly, because in this new digital world, nothing stays the same for very long.”

Don’t think that action sports aren’t diving headfirst into a celebri-orgy at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah rolling this week. No, no, no. They were out in full force for the the Oakley Learn to Ride Powered by AT&T. This next paragraph pretty much sums up the mood of the entire event:
After drinking a Muscle Milk in the lounge area for some pre-ride protein, Sal Masekela was joined on the slopes by pro snowboarding pals Danny Kass and The Dingo. “Actors have always wanted to be athletes and athletes have always wanted to be actors. There’s a big mutual admiration in society, and Sundance is the perfect place to test that and put it together,” said Masekela. “I see Danny Kass and Lil Jon, and you would think that they grew up in the same hood. That’s how close they’ve gotten through snowboarding.”
And they weren’t alone. Skater Lauren Perkins and surfer Erica Hosseini also got in on the action with a crew of celebrities (some of which we’ve even heard of). Okay, on the count of three everyone keep your celebrity brand rolling for another day: 1, 2, . . . .Which reminds us: where was Todd Richards in all this? Oh, that’s right. He was webcasting from his garage.

Tonight, (Monday, Janaury 23, 2012) Bryan Iguchi will be at D&E in Aspen, Colorado for stop two of his A Back Country Awareness Tour. Over the next month The Guch will be visiting eight shops in the west to discuss back country snowboarding and the safety issues that go along with it. As Iguchi says:
To be honest my pursuit of pow hasn’t been all fun and games, I’ve had to endure a lot of harsh situations, extreme cold, frostbite, I’ve been lost overnight in wilderness with no food, water or shelter and have lived my worst nightmare suffering the painful loss of a few friends. . . I’m not trying to scare you but I think it’s important to understand the risks of backcountry riding and how to go about it as safely as possible. The mountains must be treated with respect and I hope to give you some insight of how to be more prepared in the mountains. This tour is set up as a casual “shop talk” designed to bring basic awareness to riders who are new to the backcountry and want to learn how to do it safely.”
Knowledge is power. The tour rolls through Colorado, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. Check in with Iguchi if you have the chance. Click the image above for all the details.
