Snowboarder Dies In Blackcomb Tree Well

A male snowboarder riding Blackcomb Mountain’s Seventh Heaven was found unconscious and not breathing in a tree well Wednesday at 11 AM, according to a story on CBC News.

Police said a skier found the snowboarder about 11 a.m. PT Wednesday, head down in snow at the foot of a tree beside a ski run on the mountain called Seventh Heaven. . . “The skier tried to pull the male from the tree well but was unable to do so,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair. . . “He hiked further up the hill to alert other skiers and snowboarders in the area. Together they were able to pull the male [out].”

The snowboarder was taking to the Whistler Heath Care Center where he was pronounced dead. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

This “International gathering of creativity and flow” is a collective effort with some of the most respected snow bowl builders in Japan as well as some of the most respected riders in the world all coming together for a common goal of showcasing another option in the future of freestyle snowboarding and park design. . . Japanese snow bowl builders Hayato “Bubbles” Maruyama, Goro Komatsu and Shuji Kajiura joined by Mervin Mfg.’s Krush Kulesza and a crew of dedicated volunteers and Happoone staff look to give the pros and the public an amazing day of progression, high-fives and lasting memories.

Kinko2Mt. Bachelor Resort is taking spring back with Bent Metal Binders‘ Kinko de Mayo on May 5, 2012. It is rumored to be a “day of bent jibs, tacos, heavy metal, salsa pond skimming and general hesh’ness.”

“I’m stoked to bring Ed Herbold’s event back” said Bent Metal Larry “It dropped off the table for a couple years, but the guys at Bent Metal poked it with a stick, gave it a beer and woke it’s ass back up.” . . This BEYOND FREE event is open to all snowboarders looking to get sunburned, hang with the Bent Metal Knights and Minions and maybe even hitch-hike home with some goods from Bent Metal, Mt. Bachelor, Lib Tech, GNU, Arnette, Poler Stuff, Dinosaurs Will Die, COAL, YoBeat and Snowboarder Magazine.

Driving around in a delivery truck (that doubles as his camera) Ruhter has been capturing beautiful, one-off works of photographic art that are astounding in both their content and their scope. Mammoth Open Until Memorial Day

Don’t put your snowboards away yet, Southern California. After getting 70 inches of snow in March, Mammoth Mountain has announced that they are committed to staying open through Memorial Day (May 28, 2012).

“A series of March storms created the best conditions of the year and looking at the forecast they’re not done yet,” said Howard Pickett, CMO of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. “Skiing and snowboarding on Memorial Day is a tradition in Mammoth and we look forward to continuing it this season.”

Sierra At Tahoe Hosts Flaunt It Finals

Kelly Canyon, Idaho’s Jessika Jenson took $5,000 and the 2012 Billabong Flaunt It slopestyle finals at Sierra At Tahoe on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Breanna Strangeland took $700 in the rail jam.

Jenson locked down a switch 270 onto the gap-to down box, followed by a switch board slide 270 off the pole jam, to a cab 540 and finishing off with a big backside 540 off the final 50-foot jump. Jenson was followed by Lynn Neil from Jackson Hole, Wyoming in second place and California’s Rel Friedman in third place.

3X1 Bw3×1 Founder and Designer Scott Morrison has partnered with fashion photographer Ben Watts to create a limited edition series of skateboards to help raise money for charities selected by the girls featured on the boards.

Lovely ladies Jessica Hart, Lake Bell, Elsa Hosk, Behati Prinsloo and Chanel Iman were shot in 3×1 jeans and little else for five board designs including 3×1’s logo along with Ben’s signature diamond motif and Hipstamatic lens borders. The set (400 USD), individual boards (100 USD) and 3×1’s selvedge denim bag are now available at 3×1.us, along with other stellar denim gear.

There’s just something about half naked girls on skateboards. . . oh, and good causes like Food on Foot, Polaris Project, Goods for Good and Keep A Child Alive. The boards will be officially unveiled on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 3×1 at 15 Mercer Street, NYC.
