Stance Has Winter All Socked Away

by The Editors on October 10, 2012

Stance has pulled up a whole new collection for winter 2012-13 and it’s all here.

Whether you’re throwing double corks in the park or destroying pillow lines in the backcountry, we’ve got your feet covered. We create socks that keep you warm, dry, and ready to rock. Yet there’s more to it than that. We also aim to blend form and function. By collaborating with our team of Punks and Poets, we craft socks as original as the riders who run them. After all, your socks should ooze with style—not sweat. At Stance, we focus on your feet so you don’t have to.

POW’s Forrest Shearer & The Snow Pack

by The Editors on October 3, 2012

20121002 010031 Forrest Shearer 1 200Protect Our Winters Riders Alliance member Forrest Shearer has written an editorial appearing The Daily News regarding California’s shrinking snow pack. Here’s a little of what he has to say:

In my native state of California, boarders and skiers are bracing for the effects of a warmer world. Scientists are predicting the Sierra snowpack will decline by 25 percent by 2050. We caught a preview this past ski season, when Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley had to make their own snow well into February. It’s no wonder the California Ski Industry Association is a big supporter of AB 32, the state’s landmark clean energy and climate law.

Parents Sue CVA Over Sexual Assault

by The Editors on October 3, 2012

The parents of a 16-year-old girl who was reportedly sexually assaulted by a 19-year-old snowboarding coach while the two were at Copper Mountain for the 2011 Nationals are apparently suing Carrabassett Valley Academy for $1.35 million, according to a story in the Sun Journal.

The lawsuit, filed last month by attorney D. Michael Noonan of Dover, N.H., claims that the school was negligent when it allowed [the coach], whose current age and town of residence are not included in the complaint, to continue coaching after it learned he had had a sexual relationship with a female student before his assault on “JD.”

For it’s part CVA says they “terminated its relationship with the coach, notified the student’s parents and notified the appropriate authorities.” She also said that the 19-year-old was not the girl’s coach.” Ugly situation all the way around.

Copper Mountain Fires Up The Guns

by The Editors on October 2, 2012

Guns Break Lights

In days past it would be a storm that would get the sheds restless, now it’s the jet fighter sounds of snow guns that get hearts racing. And Colorado’s Copper Mountain is doing just that as they fired up their snowmaking guns this morning, October 2, 2012.

Favorable weather conditions have enabled Copper Mountain Resort to fire up the snow guns this morning, commencing one of Colorado’s largest snowmaking operations and the U.S. Speed Center VIP Preview Contest. 87 automatic snowmaking guns will be dedicated to the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center, the world’s only early season full-length alpine racing venue, scheduled to open in late-October.

Hope it stays cooled enough to make it stick. For the official details, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Teenage Assholes Out Of Control

by The Editors on October 1, 2012

The crew from Snowboard Alta went up to Utah’s Skiing Only resort to ask skiers how the felt about snowboarders riding on the mountain. As might be expected, no one wanted to see snowboarders on Alta Ski Area. Then again, these are people who have chosen to ski a mountain that excludes snowboarders. Kind of like walking into the smoking lounge at the Las Vegas airport and asking people if smoking should be banned.
