12 Days Of Gifts Day 12: Lib Tech Air E Ola

by The Editors on December 12, 2014

Libtech Aireola-1

Mervin Manufacturing co-founder Mike Olson is the mad scientist (click here to watch the video) who is almost singled handedly responsible for every major advancement in ski and snowboard construction and design over the past 30 years. There are too many to list here, however, the good news is that for the past decade Olson has turned his ground breaking design and construction intuitions to surfing. This has resulted in a top secret, US based production facility that is creating some of the most durable, environmentally safe surfboards ever produced. Olson calls them “waterboards.” Here are few of the features:

100% closed cell foam won’t absorb water… won’t rot; more durable: Lasts longer, less dings, less boards in landfills; recycled foam core: up to 50% recycled content in blank, blank scraps all recycled, elimination of hazardous resin systems, non ozone depleting blowing agent, Basalt fiber: no additives, no boron, no solvents except water; no paint brushes, no sandpaper, no tape

If you’re thinking about giving the gift of surf this year, then the Air E Ola is the perfect board. It features a “freedom of choice” five-box fin system, a concave deck and grab rails for better edge grip. It comes in lengths from 5’5″ to 6’3″. The Air E Ola is a durable, environmentally friendly, performance shortboard that will change your surfing life. For real. The Air E Ola retails for $725.96 and can be purchased right here.

12 Days Of Gifts Day 11: Academy Propa-Camba

by The Editors on December 11, 2014

Propa Academy-1

We’ve ridden a lot of snowboards over the years and the truth in 2014 is that they’re all good. Companies have to try pretty hard to make a bad snowboard these days. So if you’re looking for the perfect gift snowboard it might as well be from a company run snowboarders. And it should have good graphics and proper name. Broken bottles won’t hurt either. Right? Because broken bottles and Dr. Suess are dope and always will be. If you’re already headed down this road on your Flexible Flyer gift sled then there is no reason not to throw Academy Snowboard’s “award-winning” park charging Propa-Camba on back and take it home. Here are a few reasons why:

The name of this board says it all, Proper Camber! Traditional camber never went away and this board proves it. This board has so much snap to it, even the graphics pop. You will like it here and there, you will like it everywhere. You can hit a box or ollie a fox, this board is top notch. A true twin deck with tip to tail wood core, giving the board a consistent feel no matter which way you ride it. The Propa-Camba has a mellow camber to give you that ollie power but still torsionally soft so you can get HAM on any feature whether in the streets or the park. Designed by Chad and Ryan Tarbell, this board is built to last.

There. They said it. Sounds like just the right board, right? The Propa-Camba retails for $395.95 and can be purchased right here.

12 Days of Gifts Day 10 A: Perfect Bar

by The Editors on December 10, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-12-10 at 3.04.34 PM

While the mouse dissolving, caffeinated, carbonated, high fructose corn syrup tour may want to you think otherwise, all athletes know that you’re only as good as the food you put in your body. That’s why a box of Perfect Bars makes the perfect stocking stuffer this holiday season. With some Perfect bars the next time your giftee heads out for an all-day shred, they can slip a Perfect Bar in their pocket or backpack. Then, when everyone else is headed in for lunch, they’ll keep charging while snacking on an all-natural, gluten free, and non-GMO snack bar that’s loaded with good stuff (and not one single bit of refined sugar). It’s a difference they’ll noticed from the first bite.

The bars are available in seven flavors including: lite cranberry crunch, lite almond acai, carob chip, fruit and nut, peanut butter, almond butter, and vegan almond coconut. And, while each has a slightly different flavor profile, with the exception of the lite flavors all of them pack in about 300 calories. The lite cranberry crunch and lite almond acai use puffed crisp rice to keep the calorie count in the 200 range. In addition, more than twenty superfoods such as kale, spinach, celery and others are hiding inside the bar in a powdered form.

With all that inside, it’d be easy for the bars to taste like a dirty hippy smells, but they don’t. Instead, the bars taste like fresh peanut butter or almond butter mixed with a little honey and milk—because aside from all those ground up superfoods that’s basically what they are. Though we would have liked to see one or two flavors of the bars sporting a influx of oats for a slower-release of carbohydrates on a sustained effort, for the most part the Perfect Bar really was just that.

Sure they seem simple, but after a few weeks of eating a Perfect Bar for lunch the shreds on your christmas list will be hard pressed to go back to any pre-packaged energy bar that they’ve eaten in the past. You can find Perfect Bars online for about $20 for a box of 8 (or 20 bite-sized minis) at shop.perfectbar.com or in the refrigerated aisle of your local health food grocer.

12 Days Of Gifts Day 10: Boosted Electic Skateboard

by The Editors on December 10, 2014

Boosted Dual

Sometimes skaters are just lazy (especially longboarders). Maybe his holiday season someone you know just doesn’t feel like pushing it any more and would rather stand around on their skateboard. If so, Boosted Longboards has answer in the form of a Bluetooth controlled electric skateboard that can cruise along at 20 miles an hour. With a power output of 1,500 watts, this high tech longboard can blast up a 20 percent grade with no problem. The brains in the electric motor make this one of the smartest skateboards ever made. Onboard sensors deliver what Boosted says is “unbelievably smooth” power and when the brakes are applied the skateboard regeneratively charges up the batteries automatically.

The Boosted Dual board features a Loaded brand bamboo deck, a wireless Bluetooth remote, Caliber trucks, a rechargeable Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, and Orangatang In Heat wheels. 12 Days Of Gifts Day 9: Freewaters Scamps

by The Editors on December 9, 2014

Freewaters Scamp

Freewaters Scamps have become our go-to flips for the rare occasions when we venture outside without proper footwear on. The Therm-a-rest footbed (yes, the same as those sleeping pad for backpackers) is comfortable, stable, and grippy when wet (which is a good thing). Plus, there is no leather so the vegan flip-flop wearers on your list will feel right at home. Plus, they seem to last forever. The Scamps come in all black and olive and orange and retail for $36 and can be purchased right here.

12 Days Of Gifts Day 8: Smith Marvine

by The Editors on December 8, 2014

Mappbrmt

They were stylish back in the day and now Smith Optics has brought the Marvine back again for some modern, retro flavor. In fact, these shades are guaranteed to make you look 15-20 IQ points smarter. And we all know people who could use the gift of intelligence this holiday season.

Buried in the vaults of Smith’s sunglass archive for decades, this iconic circular frame has a distinctive round shape and vintage curves. Drawing from all the elements expected of traditional design-simplicity, quality and craftsmanship, the Marvine is an authentic blast from our historic past. Proudly paying homage to generations of free-spirited, creative, and thoughtful intellectuals.

We like ’em in matte tortoise with polarized brown lenses, however, the Marvine comes is six different color ways and look just as good on girls as they do on guys. The Marvine’s retails for $119 and you can buy them right here.
