Jaymo Pitches The Audioglove

by The Editors on October 26, 2010

We haven’t heard from former pro snowboarder (and “core sport marketing consultant”) Kris Jamieson for years and then out of nowhere he appears pitching the “newest innovation for your iPhone.” It’s called the Audioglove from Fadigear.

It’s an advanced case that actually increases your iPhone’s volume by 12 decibels (that’s a lot!). Get your order in now and we’ll ship you the first edition Audioglove with the JustUs logo.

The company reportedly has new Audioglove designs coming from Sage Bolyard, Cara-Beth Burnside, Kim Peterson, Dave Duncan and 10 designs from Pearl Jam. Yeah, guess all the elderly skaters need a little more volume and it’s much easier to carry around than this.

To Live And Skate In Kabul Now Online

by The Editors on October 26, 2010

Thanks to funding by Diesel filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel’s award-winning film Skateistan: To Live and Skate In Kabul has been released and is viewable online here.

Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul is a beautifully shot film that follows the lives of a group of young skateboarders in Afghanistan. Operating against the backdrop of war and bleak prospects, the Skateistan charity project is the world’s first co-educational skateboarding school, where a team of international volunteers work with girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 17, an age group largely untouched by other aid programmes.

Who Is This French Policeman Really?

by The Editors on October 22, 2010

Etniesprotester

While we’re pretty sure the Tony Hawk Foundation’s Miki Vuckuvich was at the Stand Up For Skateparks Benefit last weekend in Beverly Hills, California we’ve recently received puzzling evidence suggesting he’s been moonlighting as a French police officer. Then again, Miki would never turn a blind eye as a protesting skateboarder was hauled away. No way. Never.

Cambridge Student Apologizes For Towing

by The Editors on October 20, 2010

Seth Coombes, a Exeter University student who towed behind his friend’s car at 27 MPH without dying or getting injured, has apologized for his crimes against humanity, according to a story in the Cambridge News.

“I apologise to any people I may have endangered with my actions and I would like to say that in the circumstances of my life I act with responsibility and care for others.”

Driver Gordon Pottinger was equally apologetic.

“I would like to say how deeply I regret my actions on the day in question. I was foolish, immature, and I’m ashamed. . . “My behaviour was unprecedented – in my driving career of three years I have not been convicted of any driving offence.”

He’s ashamed. And that’s how they handle towing criminals at Cambridge.

Hold Up An Umbrella For Skateparks

by The Editors on October 19, 2010

The sold-out and wet Tony Hawk Foundation fundraiser, Tony Hawk: SHRED Presents Stand Up For Skateparks, held at billionaire Ron Burkle’s Green Acres Estate in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday raised $750,000 for quality free skatepark building.

The highlight of the day (aside from a live performance by Jane’s Addiction) was when philanthropist Charles Annenberg announced a special gift of $275,000 fro Explore.com and the Annenberg Foundation to finish the Watts Skatepark Project. Oh, and there were apparently some “celebrity” included on the 1,000 person guest list.

Celebrities including Tony Hawk, Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Johnny Knoxville, Chuck Liddell, Leeza Gibbons, Arsenio Hall, Ben Harper, Patrick Dempsey, BMX legend Mat Hoffman and legendary skaters Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, and Mike Vallely enjoyed the interactive booths while waiting for the stage and vert ramp to be dried by crews.

It’s not a party until Arsenio Hall shows up. Guests said it pretty much rained all day, but that didn’t stop Tony and friends from putting on a demo on the vert ramp or from doing great work for skateboarding.

For the official details, follow the jump.

Skateistan: Peace Through Superior Skating

by The Editors on October 18, 2010

329658 Q75

When we first mentioned Skateistan on our website back in June of 2008 it was just three Australian skateboarders who wanted to help improve he lives of Afghanistan’s children by teaching them to skateboard in an empty Kabul fountain. Since then Skateistan has grown to become an international organization (NGO) with a large indoor skateboard park in Kabul, an award winning documentary film, and a school with nearly 300 Afghan kids (boys and girls) enrolled.

Dvidshub.com checked in with Skateistan recently to cover a skateboard donation by members of the International Security Assistance Force and delivered a story of hope through skateboarding from one of the roughest cities in the world.

“From the very start, kids from many different ethnic and social backgrounds were being brought together through skateboarding, and Oliver had the idea to create a school where education was offered alongside skateboard lessons, with the hope that trust-building and self-confidence would be the result,” Percovich said. . . “It was the motivation from the kids that got Oliver thinking about doing something on a larger scale with skateboarding, through using the activity to bring kids from all different backgrounds together and provide interactive education that would build a mini-community for youth in Kabul,” Bader said. “Those initial skate sessions were the foundations for Skateistan.”

A Big O Art Show

by The Editors on October 18, 2010

Otis.B

San Diego’s Subtext Gallery will be hosting a “one-night only” showing of recent paintings by Otis B. (a.k.a. O) titled Black and Blue Just Like You on Saturday night October 23, 2010.

Inspired by the abstract expressionism of Jackson Pollock, Otis’ process is to paint (using only a black and blue palette) on transparency film. The original piece is then pressed onto the surface of various recycled surfaces, creating a one of a kind finished piece.

The show runs from 6 -10 PM and features a live performance by Little White Teeth at 9 PM. Subtext is located at 2479 Kettner Blvd. San Diego, California right down the street from The Casbah.
