Alien Workshop’s Chris Carter Interview Video

by The Editors on April 27, 2011

Few have been more mired in the skateboarding industry than Alien Workshop founder Chris Carter. Last night (April 26, 2011) at the IASC Skateboarding Summit Shop-Eat-Surf.com’s Tiffany Montgomery interviewed Chris. It was only the second interview he has ever given. Chris tells the whole story of his start in skateboarding, founding Alien Workshop, selling the business to Burton, and how he’s working to keep the brand relevant in a changing market.

It is long (over an hour) but if you care about skateboarding you should watch it.

[Editors’ Note: it only took us eight minutes to realize the table and chairs were ruining the shot. It gets better at the nine minute mark. Sorry.]

This past weekend was the 3rd Annual Memorial Van Jam in Arvada Colorado. Dave Tuck hosted it once again at his house with a bbq and backyard pool session. The Wastell family and a ton of friends of Van’s showed up. The rain held of for the whole day and everyone had a good time.

Maloof Money Cup’s First 24 Invited Skaters

by The Editors on April 25, 2011

MaloofmoneycuptextNow that Rob Dyrdek has tightened down Street League Skateboarding’s contract skateboarders (what is this the WWE?) it’s forcing us to look at the lists and decide which roster of skaters we’d be more interested in following (not to say you can’t follow both tours).

The Maloof Money Cup has just released the first half of their 48 skater invite list and it looks pretty stacked:

Alex Olson, Andrew Reynolds , Anthony Van Engelen, Arto Saari, Austyn Gillette, Bastien Salabanzi, Brandon Westgate, Brian Anderson, Bryan Herman, Chris Haslam, Chris Pfanner, David Gravette, Dennis Busenitz, Garrett Hill, Geoff Rowley, Grant Taylor, Greg Lutzka, Justin Brock, Leo Romero, Lizard King, Sierra Fellers, Tom Asta, Tony Trujillo, and Vincent Alvarez.

Amazing skateboarding will go down, but don’t Grant Taylor, Greg Lutzka have prior commitments?

[Editors’ Note: Scratch the Lutzka mention. He has now reportedly “severed ties” with Street League.] [click to continue…]

Signal Recreates The Kidwell Snowboard

by The Editors on April 21, 2011

Each time we link up a Signal Every Third Thursday video we swear it’s going to be our last one, but Dave Lee and the crew keep coming up with the goods.

This month Paul Schmitt and Terry Kidwell build an original horizontal lam Kidwell Model–just like back in the day. Mike Ranquet even makes a guest appearance.

Is it possible to build a snowboard in a garage? Sure. Especially if it’s Paul Schmitt’s.

Tim Okasaki: World’s First Gay Skateboarder

by The Editors on April 20, 2011

Skater Tim’s Okasaki’s mom is totally convinced that he is gay, and she decides to turn it into a business.

“I even came up with my catch phrase,” she explains. “I’m Gay! Which I got Tim to say at any skateboard competition or to the media. Tim really got into it. I also came up with ‘skateboarding gaystyle.’ That was more of a business decision. I wanted to kids to become familiar with the phrase “gaystyle” because that’s when I started my company Gaystyle Enterprises.”

This is reportedly a sketch from a new comedy show called Angry Boys by Australian comedian Chris Lilley. Just watch it. . . we’re still laughing.

Emerica Makes Heath Kirchart Some Boots

by The Editors on April 20, 2011

Shifter-Hk-1

When Sole Technology founder Pierre Andre Senizergues first arrived in America with his products one of the first things the local marketing professionals tried to tell him was that he would not be successful marketing “skateboarding boots” in the US. He was reminded that skaters wore sneakers or Vans and that he should immediately drop the word “boot” from his marketing materials.

The appearance today of the new, limited edition (500 pair) emerica Heath Kirchart Shifter HK boot would suggest that Pierre still loves nothing more than giving America a skateboarding boot.

Our Favorite Shows Renewed On Fuel

by The Editors on April 19, 2011

Fuel.Tv Logo-250X239While we cut the cable years ago, we still have two favorite shows on Fuel TV (when we can catch them online): Built To Shred and The Adventures of Danny & The Dingo. Luckily for us both shows have been renewed for the new season along with The Standard Snowboard Show and Thrillbillies (agh, whatever).

“These are four original series that continue to attract loyal audiences for us at FUEL TV,” says Shane Coburn, FUEL TV Director, Development and Current Programming. “The programs deliver compelling characters, intense situations, frenetic action, and irreverent humor, making them all time-tested fan favorites.”

We’re looking forward to watching at least three of them when we’re at our parents house, because they still have cable. Follow the jump for all the details. [click to continue…]
