If you’ve missed getting in on the action, here’s a little lick from Denver, Colorado. That’s all you’re going to get because the last stop on the Couch Tour was yesterday, July 2, 2013 in Chicago. Ryan Burch will be showing a collection of his surfboard shapes tomorrow (Friday, June 21, 2013) in The Garage at UNIV in Encinitas, California. The show, titled Functional? Water Deflecting Sculpture Not For Sale, will highlight the innovative shapes that Burch will spend the next year surfing.
Ryan is a local Encinitas surfer and shaper and utilizes his vast knowledge of surfboard design history to craft futuristic asymmetrical surfboards from beyond. He has gained widespread attention as both a test pilot and conceptual craftsman and stands at the forefront of the do-it-yourself movement and innovation.

If you’re in the Denver, Colorado Flatiron Crossings zone tomorrow (Saturday, June 8, 2013) then be sure and roll by the Zumiez Couch Tour for a little Curren$y exchange and opener Freddie Biggs. Deathwish will be there as well putting down a demo. But be careful, it could get a bit hazy up in that piece.
Hitting nine major cities across the U.S. from Seattle to New York City, the Zumiez Couch Tour sponsored by Neff, Oakley, Skullcandy, Sector 9, TransWorld SKATEboarding and Drink Water features an afternoon full of music and skateboarding. Each stop also features one presenting brand (LRG, Volcom, Plan B, DGK and Gold, ICECREAM, Deathwish and Baker, Adidas, Neff, Girl and Chocolate) that brings their pro skate team for a demo and autograph session, curates the music for that stop including a meet and greet with the performers, and offers activities for all attendees.

Made in America surf trunk manufacturer Katin has teamed up with New York-based fashion boutique Club Monaco for a summer collection that includes trunks, shorts, T-shirts, and hats.
Launching in May, the Club Monaco x Katin collaboration will be carried exclusively in a dozen special Club Monaco men’s shops and on the company’s online store.

It’s good to know that the snowboard industry isn’t going to take all the economic gloom and doom laying down. . . in the sun. . . with a drink their tanned, relaxed hands.
No, with the help of the Snow Industries of America they took action and jetted off to Palm Springs this week to get some winter problems solved the old fashioned way: meetings, powerpoint presentations, poolside drinking, tanning, and good old bro-ing down, all under the auspices of The Committee of Snowboard Brands. Committee Chairman Mike West of 686 explains:
“From company founders to CEO’s, it was an honor to have key players from the snowboard community come together to discuss some major issues within the industry,” said Mike West, founder of 686, chairman of the SIA Snowboard Committee and member of the SIA Board of Directors. “Our discussions have led to taking the next steps on increasing participation through retention and allocating our resources towards increasing healthier sales in retail. Our goal is to work ON snowboarding instead of working IN snowboarding.”

For the month of May (April 27 – May 31, 2013) Keep A Breast is posting up a pop up shop in The Garage at Univ, in Encinitas, California.
The pop-up will feature everything Keep A Breast has to offer and more including: merchandise from http://shopkab.com and our partners; KAB breast casts; Non Toxic Revolution prints from artist Shepard Fairey and others; Kassia Meador photo collection; ltd skate decks from Todd Bratrud; and interactive breast cancer prevention learning lounge. The pop-up shop will also feature a series of special events such as a KAB Treasured Chest breast casting day for survivors.

Zumiez 13th Annual Couch Tour kicks off its nine-stop tour on May 25, 2013 in Seattle, Washington and from there on out it’s a free six-hour event for the kids each week for most of the summer.

Encinitas, California based style shop, UNIV, is hosting an new collection from artist Charles Bergquist on Friday night, April 19, 2013 entitled Night Shift. The event will also feature music by Tropical Popsicle.
Charles Bergquist is a director, designer and photographer, with a unique style that combines vivid colors with elegant imagery. Most of Charles’ work is the filtered result of working in multiple mediums of image capture and heavy layering. All textures, photos and imagery are shot and then combined, regardless of format. He continues to push his boundaries by constantly creating new work.
The Night Shift opening party runs from 6 to 10 PM in the newly expanded UNIV Garage space. UNIV is located at 1053B South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, California.
