While we still don’t believe we’ve ever seen anyone under 45 using an iPad in the wild (fie to you obnoxious moms using iPads to snap photos of your kids at the beach), apparently Vans has. Why else would they put the time and effort into creating their new Off the Wall TV iPad app? Here’s what they say about it:
Off the Wall TV iPad app, delivers Vans’ offthewall.tv video network of exclusive, original action sports, music, art and street culture programming to millions of iPad users around the world. . . [users are] now able to enjoy offthewall.tv anywhere with the easy to use app.
The app (which is free in the iTunes store) features all the content from the offthewall.tv website. So, the next time you’re over at you aunt’s house, grab her iPad and load this thing up. It’s probably pretty cool. Not that we’d know.

These may be the sweetest smelling googles on the planet thanks to a collab between Spy and European perfume and beauty products company Les Ettes. Founder Carmela Fleury is pretty happy with these googles.
“I was super excited to work with SPY on these goggles,” says Carmela Fleury, founder of Les Ettes “We always try to add a bit of fun into our product collaborations and this was no different. I love the way they turned out, especially the Trevor with the sunglass arm patches.”
The Bias, which is a sleek, low-profile frame isn’t the only Les Ettes strapped frame. Guys who are into Les Ettes can get in the game too with a Les Ettes Spy Trevor. For all the details follow the jump. [click to continue…]
It appears that the spin on the revolving door at the Hurley CEO office as once again slowed as Nike names former VF Corp. apparel veteran Michael Egeck to head up the surf brand.
Egeck, 52, brings nearly 30 years of experience to Hurley. His most recent assignment prior to coming to Hurley was as President of True Religion Brand Jeans. Prior to that, Egeck was at VF Corporation where he served as President of VF Contemporary Coalition and CEO for Seven for All Mankind. Egeck also served as President of the VF Outdoor and Action Sports Coalition, leading an extensive brand portfolio including Vans, Reef, Jansport, The North Face, Eastpak and Napapijri. In addition, Egeck also served as President of The North Face, Inc. and GM of Columbia Sportswear.
Sounds like Mr. Egeck (who will report to Roger Wyett) has a pretty good handle on the clothing business. Follow the jump for the entire press release. [click to continue…]

A showing of the art of Dustin Ortiz, Jonathan Mattson, and Jared Mattson titled Top Ramen Nachos will open this Friday, September 30, 2011, at UNIV in Encinitas, California.
Born and raised in Encinitas, surrounded by the creative melting pot of the surf and skateboard communities, Dustin and the Mattson’s have been using the tools at their disposal to create for the better part of their lives. They have chosen the name, “Top Ramen Nachos” for their first show together as a symbol of the unique and satisfying combinations that can manifest when one is left their own devices in a world where the circumstances are not ideal.
We’re going to officially add Snowboarder Magazine’s Pat Bridges to the list of snowboarders who can act better than they ride. This new Nike Snowboarding parody of the old Bo Knows campaigns (“Danny Don’t Know”) proves it once and for all. We’re still laughing just thinking about how nice it must be for Mr. Bridges to get checks from both Source Interlink and Nike at the same time.
Right on the heels of one of the most amazing surf contests ever comes a little bad news for Quiksilver. Yesterday (September 21, 2011) the stock reached a new 52-week low of $3.44, according to a story on The Street. And what they have to say about the stock is even worse:
TheStreet Ratings rates Quiksilver as a sell. The company’s weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its disappointing return on equity, weak operating cash flow and generally weak debt management.
Ouch. Click here for the complete The Street overview of Quiksilver’s stock.
