686’s 19th Annual Black & White Holiday Gig

by The Editors on December 5, 2011

Nothing makes holiday revelers feel older than knowing they’re going to a party that’s been going on longer than most snowboarders have been alive. On the other hand, the 19th Annual Black & White Holiday Gig shows just how deeply 686’s snow roots go.

A crowd of nicely dressed invited guests cued up in front of Hermosa Beach, California’s Club 705 at 8:30 PM Friday, December 2, 2011 waiting to be let in to the 19th Annual 686 Black & White Holiday Gig. On the curb, and drawing a crowd from randoms was the new 686 x Scion Ultimate snow car.

Once inside it was classic 686 black and white: photo booths, caricature artists, a taco guy, Peligroso shots, a DJ, and an open bar. 686’s Mike West ran the party all night long making sure everyone had exactly what they needed (and then some). Happy Holidays.

Bobby Hundreds Welcomes Odd Future

by The Editors on December 2, 2011

Thehundreds0358In a post welcoming Odd Future’s pop-up shop to Fairfax titled Killin ‘Em All, Bobby Hundreds kicks down one of the best rants on what it means to be new, and fresh, and popping. The entire post is worth reading, but here’s the big hit:

Streetwear is back, FAIRFAX is back…in a big big way, and you’d be stupid to not admit that Odd Future played a big big role in it. The best part is these guys don’t give a flying OF what you think, what I’m saying about them right now on this blog, how anybody did it before them, how the game is supposed to be played. To them, there aren’t even rules to break — there’s no field, there’s just them with baseball bats, in a glass room – they don’t see walls or limitations, and they’re swinging with reckless abandon. (Sometimes they’re aiming for all the people who doubted them, ignored, dismissed, and marginalized them) . . . And this is why I love Odd Future. Because they are doing everything right, the way a teenager is meant to be angry and rebellious, the way the youth are meant to upset the setup.

How’s that for a perfect reminder to everyone who thinks they’ve seen it all before?

Burton Puts Girls In Their Own Box

by The Editors on December 2, 2011

Burton Girls

Burton Snowboards has apparently decided that their girls need their own special place to hangout online. (Burtoxy?) The site is called Burtongirls.com and it features a forum, contributor content, “Burton outfits,” and place to share things on Facebook and Twitter.

“With burtongirls.com we wanted to create a forum where girls could discover fun, unique and diverse content around the lifestyle and culture of our sport,” stated Donna Carpenter, President of Burton. “There are so many cool aspects to our lifestyle – from traveling and meeting people all over the world, getting to ride the best mountains on the planet and working with the best snowboarders, and burtongirls.com reflects all of that.”

The best part is it’s a place for Burton to market directly to girls without having to worry about what the boys think. Follow the jump for the official details. [click to continue…]

Scarlett Johanson x Neff = Hope

by The Editors on December 2, 2011

Scarlett Neff

Sexting little strumpet Scarlett Johanson has teamed up with Neff and Zappos to design some new beanies to raise money for the City of Hope.

“I helped create this Neff Beanie with the hope that every purchase might make a cancer patient feel a bit more comfortable during his/her treatments,” explained Scarlett, “and look cool and be cozy all the while. The beanies are eco friendly too, so they’re as nice to the earth as they are to the person wearing them,” says Johansson.

For every Scarlett beanie that is sold (they’re only available on Zappos), Neff will donate one beanie to a City of Hope cancer patient/survivor. If and when they give away 5,000 beanies they’ll then begin donating 10 percent of the sale of each beanie until they reach a $20,000 donation after which they’ll just keep the rest. Sounds like Neff is covering their asses in addition to cancer patients heads on this one. For the official word, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Pacific Sunwear Scrambles For Rent Money

by The Editors on November 28, 2011

Pacsun LogoThe New York Post is saying that things at action mall retailer PacSun aren’t going as well as many at the company would like.

“Dude — if you can front us some dough to help cover the rent now, there will be a sweet payoff later.”
That, in essence, is the deal that surf-and-skate retailer Pacific Sunwear of California has been floating with private-equity investors as it scrambles for cash to pay the punishing leases for its struggling, mall-based shops. . . In addition to shuttering dozens of its more than 800 stores this year and haggling with landlords for lower rents, PacSun recently hired Los Angeles investment bank Guggenheim Partners to raise cash, sources told The Post.

Sadder news still is that it seems few investors are interested in chaining themselves to the PacSun anchor. Looks like it won’t be long now.

Billabong Stock Takes A Mystery Dive

by The Editors on November 25, 2011

Billabong Logo-1When shares of Billabong dropped 12.5 percent on Thanksgiving Day everyone was a bit surprised. In fact, the company has no explanation for it at all, according to a story in the Herald Sun.

The unexpected surge in trading volumes on Thursday prompted the Australian Securities Exchange to write to Billabong, asking the company if it had any undeclared information that could explain the activity. . . Billabong responded yesterday by saying it was not aware of any information significant to the company that had not been announced.

The sell off (which was reportedly the busiest trading day since August) saw 9.26 million shares traded and the Billabong stock to $3.64. Taj Burrow winning a contest didn’t scare people that much did it?
