Adidas Rewrites Stan Smith’s Legacy

by The Editors on February 18, 2014

Yes, the shoe giants will try nearly anything to get you to buy a pair of their sporting footwear posing as skate shoes. adidas is even willing to rewrite the history of one of tennis’ greatest living legends and present Stan Smith (yes, that one) as a long closeted skateboarder. Watch, laugh, cry, and then go buy the same pair of shoes that you always buy. And if they’re adidas, score one for the snarky adidas marketing team!

Volcom + Baker Skateboards = Gutter Style

by The Editors on February 7, 2014

Vol Baker Belt

We just checked out Volcom and Baker’s new “Match Made in the Gutter” collection in person and you know what? It’s done up nice. The line includes two T-shirts, a button-up, belt, twill pants and a lounging shoe with pom pom toes. Huh?

The designers at Volcom and Baker worked with mutual team rider, Dustin Dollin, to come up with a progressive and eye-popping line that represents both Volcom and Baker’s unique perspective on design and skateboarding. . . Dollin was the perfect choice to help curate this collection as he is known for leading a fearless approach to skating, off board antics and fashion.

And it works. This collab is gonna be like Lego x Star Wars for skateboarders. It’s on sale now at Volcom.com and hits stores in March. For the official word from VeeCo, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Billabong May Sell Swell.com & SurfStitch

by The Editors on February 6, 2014

billabong_corp-tm.jpgBillabong has reportedly announced that they are considering selling their e-commerce businesses Swell.com and SurfStich, according to a story on MSN Money.

The embattled maker of board shorts and wet suits, which was saved last year by a refinancing deal from U.S. private equity firms Centerbridge Partners LP and Oaktree Capital Management, is looking at strategic options for its SurfStitch and Swell site. It has appointed investment bank Guggenheim Securities to help with the review.

Yeah, why own online retailers when mall stores are doing so very well?
