Surfcore: The New Fashion Trend

by The Editors on June 8, 2015

618 348 2015-Is-The-Summer-Of-Surfcore

Looks like surfers are back in style, according to a vomit-inducing fashion article in Men’s Journal (if that isn’t redundant). But be careful — surfcore is not easy to “pull off.”

If the surfcore style is for you, there’s a trick to pulling it off (which is the only similarity it shares with the norm core and lumber sexual looks — or any trend). The trick to making it look as good on the sidewalk as it does on the sand means distinguishing the fine line between gimmicky and genuine. “You have to be careful when it comes to fit,” celebrity menswear stylist Ashley Weston advises. “The guys who nail it do so because their floral shirt is fitted correctly. Surf wear and beach-inspired pieces cannot be worn loose because a relaxed fit translates into a sloppy tourist vibe. The fit can mess it all up. If the shirt is looser then you need to pair it with a much more fitted pant, or vice versa. The look needs to balance.”

Yeah, bro! Looks like Luke Davis will continue to get paid for a little while longer.

Supra-Santa-Monica-Press-Tm

It looks like Supra co-founder Angel Cabada and his investors found an exit they were looking for because today K-Swiss Global Brands announced the acquisition of One-Distribution for the usual “undisclosed amount of money,” according to a story on TransWorld Business.

“Having formed KSGB just two years ago, we are on an aggressive track to become one of the world’s leading multi-brand companies,” said KSGB President and CEO Larry Remington. “KR3W and SUPRA are brands that meet the distinctions we are looking for in our portfolio: authenticity, strong brand awareness, a track record of product innovation and opportunities for long-term, global growth. We are excited to join forces with the ONE-Distribution teams and lay a foundation for the future.”

Dragon has added The Marquis to their H20 Floatable Collection because, when you think about it, glasses that float are a pretty good idea for people who are around the water all the time, right?

This vintage-inspired, Italian made round-lens design is set off by diamond tail metal accents on the frame front, blending elements that are both classic and casual. As part of the H20 Collection, the Marquis is made from special lightweight frame materials which allow it to float and gives them a comfortable, performance fit.

Knockaround Lets The Kids Design Free

by The Editors on May 21, 2015

For the past three years San Diego, California based eyewear company Knockaround Sunglasses has enlisted the talents of elementary school students to design a pair of glasses in a program called Class Acts. Knockaround provides the art materials and the kids bring the creativity. This year winner was Evan Bui, a fourth graders from Foster Elementary School.

Evan’s inspiration was lightning bolts, as he wanted people to “feel shocked when they saw them.” . . . The Striker sunglasses feature a glossy Sky Blue front, Mint Green interiors and Bright Orange arms with Electric Yellow lightning bolts running down each side. Each pair comes with a lightning bolt protective pouch, a hand-numbered edition card, and a 2015 Class Acts ‘zine that will not only feature original artwork by Evan himself, but also Knockaround’s favorite runner up designs.

Sounds like a great way to move some units. For the official word from Knockaround, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Life Beyond Walls: Highway 101

by The Editors on May 20, 2015

Undecided on where to take a spring trip this year, Yadin Nicol and Dillon Perillo looked at the reports, packed their bags, and bought one-way tickets to Smith’s new home in Portland, Oregon. From there, the two embarked on a 1,600-mile journey down the pacific northwest coast searching for waves and avoiding sharks. Titled “Highway 101,” the second surf installment of Life Beyond Walls shares a glimpse into their journey as they weave down the coastal route drinking coffee and looking for hidden gems along the way.

Supra Goes Running With Angel Cabada

by The Editors on May 6, 2015

Angel-Cabada-SupraFootwear News has an interview with Supra founder Angel Cabada in which he talks about why he wants his $100 million shoe company to get into running and do battle with the big boys. Here’s why:

There’s nothing out there in the running market for me. I’m a monochromatic kind of person: I wear black, I wear white, I wear gray. I don’t wear color. I keep it simple, without crazy graphics and colors. I feel like every trainer out there looks like a NASCAR race car. That’s all you can buy if you want that comfort or that look or that profile of shoe. I’m not promoting the Olympics, I’m not starting a race team tomorrow — I just want our shoes to look good, be light, comfortable and provide the same experience you’d have in any other running shoe — without looking like a Christmas tree.

Investor Wants Quik To Sell Itself

by The Editors on April 22, 2015

QuikRyan Drexler, the president of Consac LLC, sent a letter to Quiksilver begging the company to put itself up for sale, according to a story on Bloomberg.com.
Drexler, said

. . . the company should find a buyer “in order to preserve diminishing shareholder value before Quiksilver’s conditions get even worse.”

Quiksilver has lost nearly 75 percent of its value in the last year and Consac owns 3.5 million shares. So anything that would bump the price up would
be great for them. Then again, who would listen to a company that owns 3.5 million shares of Quiksilver.
