The ISHOF presentation, held at City National Grove of Anaheim, will be open to the public for the first time this year. . .
. . . so fans can honor their favorite skateboarding legends, watch them be inducted into the hall of fame, and even mingle with VIPs in the action sports industry. The night will include a happy hour, VIP meet-and-greet, VIP dinner and awards ceremony, with a musical performance by legendary 80’s skateboarder, Ray Barbee. All proceeds benefit the not-for-profit efforts of the Skateboarding Hall of Fame and the Go Skateboarding Foundation.

Today (March 8, 2017) the corporation formerly known as Quiksilver has officially changed its name to Boardriders, Inc.
“The renaming of our company signifies the beginning of a new day at Boardriders. Our teams around the world have been building our resurgence brick-by-brick. Their passion and tireless execution, along with the loyalty of our customers, suppliers, and partners, has allowed us to complete the restructuring phase of our turnaround and to begin shifting our focus to growth,” said Pierre Agnes, Chief Executive Officer of Boardriders.
So, Quiksilver, Roxy, and DC Shoes are now owned by Boardriders, Inc. What a wonderful way to separate their businesses from the struggling brand (and a not-so-pretty recent financial fiasco). To read the official release, please follow the jump.
Back to back rain delays did not stop the 2017 Vans Park Series Pro Tour Global Qualifiers in Australia on March 4, 2017, as twenty of the world’s most talented park terrain skateboarders battled through a lightning round of finals heats, to inevitably crown Tom Schaar the winner of the VPS Australia Global Qualifier.
With an exceptional performance leading the qualifiers and flawless runs in today’s finals, the 17-year-old perfectionist swept the crowds with his dynamic flow and precision throughout the custom-spec park terrain course. Tom Schaar’s conclusive win not only grants him the Australia Global Qualifier title, but also places him in the lead in the 2017 VPS Men’s Tour Challenger Rankings.

It’s still going. Large crowds still show up at the bottom of the halfpipe and Chloe Kim and Shaun White are still winning the US Open of Snowboarding. In other words, not much has changed at Burton’s long running snowboard activation at Vail, Colorado.
Shaun White came ready with an arsenal of tricks to defend his title against a packed field of contenders. White says, “I wanted to come out of the gate swinging. I knew everyone was going to be going for their hardest runs. I had to step it up.” And step it up he did, White put down his most progressive run ever posting a score of 92.74, winning with a nearly 10-point lead. His run started off with a lofty backside air, into a frontside double cork 1080 stalefish, upping the ante with a Cab double cork 1440 mute, into a frontside 540 stalefish, a backside double McTwist, and ending with a frontside 900 tail. This is the first time in competition that White has landed his Cab double cork 1440 followed by a double McTwist 1260 in what was a history-making halfpipe run at the final event of the 35th annual Burton U.S. Open.

The Vans Park Series kicks off the 2017 VPS Men’s Pro Tour this weekend in Sydney, Australia.
Situated in the scenic locale of Manly Beach, the custom-designed VPS park course is built directly on the sand, highlighting infinite opportunities for speed, air and style. The course terrain features a unique deep end equipped with pool coping, a gigantic hipped layback bank, a spine on top of the deck that with a raw concrete curb on top of it, a huge 10.5’ tall extension, and an abundance of hips and transfers.

Patagonia has announced that they will be releasing their Personal Surf Inflation (PSI) Vest sometime this spring to big wave surfers, however, only those who go through the BWRAG Big Wave Safety Course will be able to purchase one. The company will also license their patented designs to other manufacturers and donate the proceeds to help save Punta de Lobos, an iconic and endangered Chilean surf break.
“The PSI Vest has already played a huge role in giving surfers the confidence to take the sport of big wave surfing to the next level.” said Jason McCaffrey, Patagonia’s Director of Surf. “We invested heavily in testing and refining the PSI Vest, and sought feedback from hundreds of the best surfers in the world, in order to bring to market the best product possible. The PSI Vest will help reduce the risks involved in riding the world’s biggest waves, and I’m excited that licensing fees from our extensive R&D work will be another tool we can use to help protect coastal ecosystems.”
