With a big bag of tricks and a buttery smooth style, it’s a true pleasure to watch Sammy Luebke rip down a mountain. Sammy lights up any slope he touches, always choosing fluid, powerful lines. His skills are unmatched on the Freeride World Tour the past two seasons. Sammy just won back-to-back 2016 and 2017 world titles! In celebration, we are thrilled to share part one of Sammy’s 2016 full part featuring shots from TGR’s “TIGHTLOOSE”. Part one showcases Sammy at his finest, crushing long lines in the Teton backcountry with signature style.
We’ve no reason to disagree at this point. Thoughts?
Mark McMorris was sent another setback while filming with his brother Craig in the Whistler backcountry on Saturday, March 25, 2017, according to a story on the CBC.
Craig McMorris said the group was jumping off a feature in the backcountry onto a landing area at a high rate of speed and from considerable height. “There was fog kind of coming in and out, and Mark, unfortunately, drifted a little bit too far left … and ended up in a clump of trees,” he said. “It’s a freak accident, you know, 99.9 per cent of the time he would have landed in the snow and rode away. This time, for whatever reason, just a couple of feet to the left and ends up in pretty much the worst-case scenario.”
McMorris, who was doing a 360 off the jump, suffered a fractured jaw and left arm, ruptured spleen, a fractured pelvis, broken ribs and a collapsed left lung. He reportedly went through two different surgeries and is thankfully doing well. Our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery.
Going once…going twice….psych! The Spring Drop 2 Catalog from Antihero is online and up for auction. Check out Grosso’s Pool Party board, Cardiel’s Caballitos, ltd color of BA’s 1st, ‘State of Mind Pro’ series, and updated colors from artist John Herndon’s ‘A Doper Grape’ series.
We’d go with the Grosso, however, the Chris Stroples aren’t bad either. Click the link for more graphical goodness from the Antihero.
The word from Stereo Skateboard’s Chris Pastras and Jason Lee is as follows:
“Ethan Fowler came on to ride for Stereo in 1994 when A Visual Sound was pretty much in the can and finished, so we gave him and Tobin Yelland some Super 8 film, and a two week deadline. The result was one of the most fluid, powerful, and stylish video parts of all time. Watching Ethan skate during that time was like watching Jazz great Thelonious Monk at the piano, improvisational genius.” – Chris “Dune” Pastras
“Those early Stereo days were some of the most enjoyable times of my life, and having guys like Carl and Ethan around and skating and creating with us made what we were doing that much more special. Two of my all-time favorite skateboarders, and I’m honored that after all these years we are still collaborating.’” – Jason Lee
They are called Matchcourt Mid’s (guess they’re repurposed old Adidas tennis shoes or something). But they’re skate shoes now, thanks to Marc Johnson and his funny, funny ways.
Pantone 542, the official school color of the University of North Carolina, known as “Carolina Blue”, serves as the inspiration for the signature colorway of the Matchcourt Mid x MJ. The blue pays homage to Johnson’s home state and skateboarding roots.
Dakine partnered with Furrow Surf Craft creator and shaper Christine Brailsford Caro on a collection of products that they say blends Christine’s wood-carved artwork and her board designs that are progressive, yet simple in shape and form.
The Furrow x Dakine Collection is inspired by the fun of riding waves, creativity, and a dedication to craftsmanship.

Burton Snowboards has reportedly decided to outsource their creative direction to their former creative director Greg Dacyshyn. Confused? Don’t be. It’s what corporations, city governments, and nations have been doing for awhile now. Here’s how Jake Burton explains it:
“Greg has been with me and Burton for over 20 years. In that time, he worked his way up from an entry-level position to Chief Creative Officer. He ultimately assumed responsibility for the look and feel of every product and marketing piece in our line,” Burton says. “He has always delivered a creative look that I have been comfortable with and (more importantly) that has been well received in the market. Under this new structure, Greg will continue to have the impact that he has had in the past while giving our VP of Product, Chris Cunningham and our Chief Marketing Officer, Anne-Marie Dacyshyn, the opportunity to execute and assume direct and complete responsibility for our product and marketing.”
Sounds like a perfect gig. Do all the fun stuff, while letting your wife take responsibility. Yessssss. For the official word from Burton, please follow the jump.
Lib Tech has a new little 7 footer that’s for everyone. It’s called the Pickup Stick 7’0″. Think of it as a WaveStorm that’s not embarrassing to be seen with. Here’s what Lib has to say about it.
The Pickup Stick “mid size” shape perfectly fills the gap between a shortboard and a longboard. A smooth flowing shape and rocker combined with a single to double to flat tail contour for high performance shortboard style maneuvers and a concave for nose riding lift, refined but forgiving rails and great volume all add up to non stop wave catching performance/fun. Whether you are a first timer looking for a board that will be easy to progress on, a weekend warrior that is looking for maximum wave time or if you are a ripper looking for that “transition period” mid sized fun/performance option that takes an average day and makes it special, the Pickup Stick is always a perfect choice.
