Brooklyn, New York’s BAMcinematek has lined up one seriously deepcollections of skateboard filmmaking as they present Skateboarding Is Not A Crime. The 24-film series runs September 6-23, 2013 at The BAMcinematek and BAM Rose Cinemas. No one deconstructs what many of us take for granted like the New York art crowd and this festival is no different. Here’s an example:
The ultimate in counterculture coolness, “skating” has made an irresistibly sexy subject for movies thanks to its rebel-athlete superstars, SoCal slacker fashion, and jaw-dropping jumps, ollies, tricks, and stunts.
Right. That said, this collection of skateboarding film includes the classics from every era featuring The Devil’s Toy from 1966, Scott Dittrich’s Freestylin‘, Spike Jonze’s Yeah Right, and Hollywood classics like Thrashin’ and Gleaming The Cube. The Agenda Trade Show will be launching a “highly curated platform features som of the biggest innovators and industry leaders” when they roll out their Agenda Emerge powered by Group Y on July 26, 2013, from 6 to 10 PM.
“We are focusing on an event that will benefit young brand owners trying to break into the industry.” said AGENDA Founder Aaron Levant. “After 10 years, we’ve gotten to know a lot of these brands and watch them reach immense success. This is a great opportunity for the new generation of designers to learn from seasoned veterans who have turned their brands into household names.”

Mary Bono Mack, the former congresswoman and widow of singer (and politician) Sonny Bono, broke her wrist while snowboarding at Colorado’s Purgatory weekend of January 19, 2013 with her husband Connie Mack, according to a story on MyDesert.com. It was reportedly her first time snowboarding.
Bono Mack was, according to her official Twitter account, vacationing at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort with husband Connie Mack when the incident happened. . . “Took my first snowboarding lesson ever today @skipurg with @conniemackiv. Hmmmm. Yeah.. no..don’t think I will make the switch from skis. . . [then later} Boarding experiment over. Broken right wrist. Damn. There goes ski season. Good time to work on my book. Great loving husband.”
Though who know will remember that Mack’s former husband Sonny died in January 5, 1998 at Heavenly Valley resort from “massive head injuries” after hitting a tree while skiing. Nice that Mack hasn’t let her past slow her down one bit.

Carlos Salas, a 20-year-old skateboarder from Laguna Nigel, California was hit and killed by “an alleged hit-and-run driver” according to a story on CBSlocal.com.
The accident happened just before 4 a.m. on Golden Lantern and Marina Hills Drive. . . Authorities said Carlos Salas was on his skateboard when he was hit and dragged 25 feet by the car. . . He was found in the road and taken to the hospital, where he later died.
According to the LA Weekly:
Orange County Sheriff’s investigators say the young victim was skateboarding home from a friend’s place around 3:48 a.m. when black 1998 Nissan Maxima plowed into him, dragging him southbound along Golden Lantern …
The Nissan, which was later found abandoned, is registered to a man in Dana Point, California, however no arrests have been made.

Jonah King, a 16-year-old longboarder from Rowan County, North Carolina died from head injuries sustained after skateboard towing, according to a story on WSOTV.com.
King was riding his longboard, which is a bigger version of a skateboard, on Timberlane Trail in Salisbury when he fell and hit his head. . . Police said he was being pulled behind a car when he fell. Investigators said King was doing what is known as “towing” or “skidding,” which is when a skateboarder grabs the side of a vehicle and is towed up hills.
King was not wearing a helmet and had, earlier in the evening, been caught on tape illegally buying beer at a mini market. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results. Our thoughts are with King’s family and friends.

Measuring 9.75” x 32”, each complete will feature 7ply 100% Canadian Hard Rock Maple, fully dipped graphics and shredded die cut grip. Each of the six models will come with 6 ¼” powder coated Z-Flex trucks complemented by 90A Z-Pro Wheels and Abec7 Z-Speed bearings.

North Shore surfer Joshua Holley, 28, survived shark attack on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, while paddling in the channel between Aligator Rock and Leftovers when what is believed to be a 10-foot Tiger shark hit him on the left leg, according to a story on Hawaii News Now.
He said the shark bit his left foot and then started swimming to the front of the board. . . “Survival mode kicked in and I punched it really hard once and then twice. I didn’t want to panic or go into shock or anything like that,” said Holley. . . “You gotta go for something vulnerable like the eyes or the gills or the snout and that usually does the trick,” said state shark specialist Randy Honebrink. . . Holley paddled in and two strangers helped him to shore. Medics took him to Wahiawa General Hospital.
Holley received 42 stitches and will have to go back for more surgery to repair two severed tendons, but we’re all glad he’s alive.

Police think the Snowboarder Bandit robbed another bank on Monday, March 5, 2012, but this time he left his shred gear at a home and reportedly wore a motorcycle helmet and a black leather jacket, according to a story on KTLA.com.
The robber. . . robbed the Schools First Credit Union on East Santa Ana Canyon Road. . . Investigators think the robber — believed to be about 25-years-old . . . He typically gives the teller a note implying he has a weapon, and then demands cash.
This brings his total to nine robberies since December 2011. And yeah, we’re going to ride this one out. We apologize in advance.

Tylur Dewolf, a 17-year-old snowboarder from Sandy, Oregon died Friday night (January 27, 2012) after she hit a tree while riding at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, according to as story on NWCN.com.
Rescuers found Dewolf’s body near Dog Leg Run. It appeared that she had lost control while snowboarding and crashed into a tree just off of the groomed run. She suffered severe trauma to her head and chest. Investigators said she was wearing a helmet.
Friends say she was “a natural leader with a positive spirit.” Our thoughts are with Dewolf’s family and friends.

Aaron Easter, a 32-year-old snowboarder, was found “unresponsive” at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Steamboat Ski Area, near the “intersection of Buckshot and Quickdraw,” according to a story on CBS Denver 4. He was riding alone at the time.
Those who found him immediately began CPR until Ski Patrol arrived on scene. Ski patrol then continued to administer CPR while Easter, 32, was brought down the mountain to a Routt County Ambulance. . . Easter was transported to the Yampa Valley Medical Center and later flown to Denver Health Medical Center. That’s where he died.
According to a story on First Tracks Easter was found “in a depression where snow had been undermined by ground water. The hazard had been marked by the resort’s ski patrol at the time.” Investigators are still looking into the accident. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
