Dakine is leaving it’s old Hood River headquarters in the spring and will occupy half of a 45,000-square-foot facility in the Port of Hood over’s Waterfront Business Park, according to a story in the Portland Business Journal.
Dakine will relocate from its current headquarters on Columbia Street in downtown Hood River to the new Parkside Lands site at 603 Portway Ave. next spring. Once the building is completed, Key Development will transfer ownership to Parkside Lands LLC.
Looks like workers will be able to sail (or kite) right out the front door. New offices, new owners? Wonder what else is in store for Dakine in the coming months?

Bearded photographer Mark Welsh has joined Billabong’s luggage brand Dakine as the new snow team manager.
“We’re excited to have Welsh onboard,” said Mike Madlener, Dakine’s Creative Director. “He brings a clear understanding of our industry, the needs of our team, and our business.”
Welsh appears to be happy about the new gig as well.
“Signing on with DAKINE means working with one of the strongest and most talented teams in the industry; and I will have the privilege of working with some of my closest friends! I have immense respect for the quality and construction of DAKINE products so I’m really looking forward to this new venture on all levels,” said Welsh about his new role.

While we’re no fans of super flaired Flash websites, if a website owner is going to over-load their regular site with Flash graphics and other wiz-banglia, then the least they can do is build out a little mobile site for those of us who are riding the web with our phones all day. That’s exactly what Dakine has just done and the site works really well.
A newly launched, interactive site gives users access to DAKINE goodies while on the go. Content is broken down into categories including snowboard, ski, surf, skate, bike, windsurf, kiteboard, girls and music. An abbreviated version of DAKINE’s website, the mobile site, www.DAKINE.com/mobile, is compatible with most media rich-enabled cell phones.
In fact, if we were going to bookmark Dakine’s site on our home rig, we’d probably link up to the mobile site because it’s that much easier to use.

Ken Achenbach has always known how to turn ideas into dollars. Here’s another one as seen on Cldfx.com:
The backpack features a vertical snowboard carry, an internal padded laptop sleeve, a fleecelined goggle pocket and lots more. You better be fast if you want your own COC Mission Pack, the online shop isn’t online yet, but you can save a Pack by writing an email to COC. They’ve also got a colabo on the Crossfire Glove, we keep you updated.
Wonder if a free pack is included with the price of camp?

In Billabong’s financial report today they announced the following: net profit of AUS$176.4 million, up from AUS$167.3 million a year ago.
Mr O’Neill said Billabong’s second half was a “highlight” as sales revenue in North America grew by 18.6 per cent, earnings in Europe rose by 20.8 per cent and Australasia recorded 19.8 per cent growth, in constant currency terms. . . . The Billabong CEO remained confident about fiscal 2009 and said good growth was evident in early forward orders in the US and Europe amid more moderate Australasian growth.
But the really big news was that Billabong announced that they were paying $99.9 million dollars for DaKine Hawaii.
Mr O’Neill said: “DaKine has built a strong sales base in North America and a growing sales base in several international territories, making it a powerful addition to the group.” . . . DaKine is expected to contribute approximately 4 per cent of group sales in fiscal 2009 and be earnings per share positive in year one.
Billabong really is dakine now, gobble, gobble, gobble. Kind of makes us wish we had something to sell them.
