686’s Reclaim Project Design Contest

by The Editors on December 20, 2010

Reclaim Banner686, with a little help from Malakye.com and SIA Snow Show, have created a a design contest that could allow three up-and-coming outerwear designers the perfect platform they need to launch a career in the burgeoning snowboard outerwear industry (or something like that). It’s called The Reclaim Design Project and it goes something like this:

This contest will give three designers the opportunity to make an original outerwear garment from reclaimed materials, trims, and left over items from the 686 production facility. The contest will begin the opening morning of the SIA Snow Show, Thursday, January 27 but first, we have to find THREE qualified designers who can come show their stuff on the show floor.

Follow the jump for all the info on how to become one of three designers who will get the chance to sew a jacket in real time on the floor of the SIA Show. It will be just like Project Runway. . . kinda.

686’s B&W Hollywood Holiday At Bardot

by The Editors on December 3, 2010

Img 0886Each December for the past 18 years 686 owner Mike West has been thown a holiday party for employees, friends, and family. This year his annual Black & White Party was held at Hollywood’s Bardot on Vine. By 9 PM there was a line 60 people deep all dressed in some kind of mix of darkness and light, and truthfully, not standing out a whole lot from regular Hollywood night visitors.

Inside guests were treated to caricature artists, DJ Barbie and DJ Quickstat, the requisite photo booth, not to mention the warm hospitality Mr. West always provides. At 9 PM models showed off 686’s next wave of outerwear. It was an amazing evening of holiday cheer that reminded us that Hollywood still isn’t overrated.

686 Factory Blowout Sale

by The Editors on December 3, 2009

Warehouse Banner

Why pay full retail for snowboard gear this Christmas when (for those in Southern California) you can just shop a blowout warehouse sale and get your favorite (“non 09-10, old samples and old inventory”) gear and rock bottom gotta-go prices. Better yet, maybe a couple of them will get together and you can get all your holiday shopping done at once.

686, Modern Amusement, and Paul Frank Industries are throwing a huge party/sale this Friday and Saturday December 4-5, 2009 in Irvine, California. The sale also features a taco cart, DJ and “free giveaways.”

Site Relaunches: 686 vs. Burton

by The Editors on August 13, 2009

686Vsburton

Two snowboarding companies relaunched their websites today: 686 and Burton. The sites both feature black backgrounds with red accents, both use Flash, both feature a lot of product, and yet they are perfect examples of completely different user interface philosophies.

One is a simple, clean, attractive, easy-to-navigate blog with all the social tools built right in. The other is an overly complex, heavily “designed” monster, that offers up spinning logos and new menus at every turn, and looks more like a CD-Rom game from 1996 than a website for 2010.

We’ll let you decide which is which.

686 Releases The Multiple Wind Breaker

by The Editors on April 1, 2009

Breakingwinda[April Fools Day Story 2009] With the warm shred weather finally hitting, 686 is happy to announce the release of their newest light weight jacket: the Multiple Wind Breaker.

Available in Kelly Green and Black, this lightweight, all-over printed shell jacket keeps you just the right temperature while tearing up the spring snow, yet is long enough to trap flatulence for extended personal enjoyment.

“There is nothing like smoldering on the lift and basking in the warmth of your own ass breeze,” said 686 social stench marketer Hoo Cheit. “In the winter wearing heavy gear it’s easy to trap odors, but in the spring it’s much more difficult. That’s why we added 8 inches to the waist of the jacket. But the best part is our patented third ‘multiple’ sleeve.”

The third sleeve? Yes, 686 has added an exhaust sleeve that runs up the back of the jacket from the seat and over the shoulder for riders who are more interested in mainlining their crack steam. Cheit says the sleeve can be placed over the nose and mouth for full force anal emission ingestion.

The Multiple Wind Breaker features reverse 1,000MM waterproofing/1,000 GM breathability rating to make sure the farts won’t get out until you let them.
