The International Surfing Association (ISA) has opened their annual scholarship program that supports underserved surfers who are 18 and under. Here’s what ISA President Fernando Aguerre says:

The ISA Scholarship Program is a shining example of that commitment, and for me personally, a great source of pride and gratification.. . While relatively small in resources, this program has had a huge impact on the lives of these young people. This program puts into practice our mission of a better world through surfing by fostering education and the joy of surfing.

ISA Launches Annual Scholarship Program for Underserved Youth
La Jolla, California, September 4, 2020 – The International Surfing Association (ISA) is proud to announce the continuation of its annual scholarship program aimed at supporting underserved surfers 18 years of age and under.
A total of USD $20,000 will be awarded to surfers based on their financial need and dedication to both surfing and education.
Since 2007, more than 300 youth surfers around the globe have become ISA scholarship ambassadors, receiving a grand total of USD $328,500 for education, surf equipment, and competition training and coaching.
The ISA Scholarship Program has proven successful in aiding the growth and development of U-18 surfers around the world. In 2019, twelve ISA Scholarship ambassadors from seven nations were selected to compete on their national teams at the VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
The application window for the scholarships is now open and closes on September 30.

“I’ve been able to meet many of these surfers and watch them grow up throughout the years. It really touches my heart to watch them succeed in not only surfing, but life, also with a little help from the ISA.
“With Surfing set to debut in the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026, many of these young scholarship winners could find themselves as Olympians sooner than they realize.”
