Want To Get Sponsored? Buy My Product. . .

by The Editors on February 27, 2009

BooksFor only $98 (and $6 postage) Thrive Media’s Mike “Sully” Sullivan will send eager wannabe pro surfer three DVDs that will reportedly walk them through all the details of getting paid to surf.

Sullivan uses all the tricks in the internet/infomercial book (plus interviews with Gary Linden, Steve Boysen, Doc Lausch, and Rip Curl’s Dylan Slater, Hurley’s Brandon Guilmette, Dakine’s Jeran Frazer, NSSA’s Janice Aragon and others) to make sure he closes the sale.

You don’t realize it yet, but you’re about to gain a major edge on your competition. As you read every word on this page, you will start to learn exactly how to get major companies to pay you to surf. But I can only reveal this formula to a limited number of surfers (more on that later).

But hurry! Sullivan says he only has 500 copies of each DVD and they’re going fast (seriously). We’re wishing this whole project was a hoax, but somehow we think it’s for real. Sad and shady, but real. For the hard-sell video follow the jump.

Here, I’ll make it easy and save everyone the $98

1) Rip harder than everyone else at your sport
2) Have a good, outgoing personality and be able to represent brands well
3) Use social media for personal branding

Why get sponsored? Figure that out and the rest will fall into place. Please remember though that standing on that podium won’t fill the void. Surf because its a gift and you love the feeling. Stay stoked, humble and friendly. Look up in the sky and thank God.

Those are some pretty big names that he’s interviewed. As someone who has spent loads of money on surf competitions over the years, this doesnt seem like a bad deal. Yeah, the sales tactics are pretty aggressive…but I’m more than curious to hear what some of these guys have to say about getting a sponsorship. If they offered some kind of examples of what others have done to get noticed, that would be pretty cool.
