Ross Garrett Joins The Journal

by The Editors on February 18, 2009

GarrettIn a letter to friends and family Ross Garrett, the former group publisher and president of media at Airborne Media LLC, says that while he is still a partner at Airbourne, he has accepted a new job.

I’m excited to let you know I have accepted a position as Director of Operations and Development for Journal Concepts Incorporated, the parent company of The Surfer’s Journal. While I remain a partner at Airborne Media LLC and have a vested interest in Foam Magazine and Airborne’s other properties, I will be day-to-day with Steve and Debbee Pezman at the business they built in San Clemente, Ca. My mission at Journal Concepts is to grow the platform, improve the efficiency of the current operations, and grow The Surfer’s Journal itself. How that unfolds tactically, is something I will sort out with Steve and Debbee in the coming months.

Congratulations, Ross. Follow the jump for the official press release.
Ross Garrett joins Journal Concepts, Inc.

San Clemente, CA. February 24, 2009 — Steve and Debbee Pezman, founders of Journal Concepts, Inc., publishers of The Surfer’s Journal, are proud to announce the addition of Ross Garrett to our staff.

Ross will assume the title of Director: Operations & Development. His areas of responsibility will include general business management and leading Journal Concepts into growth opportunities that leverage our unique market position, “reader supported” operating model and capability to produce and deliver unique special interest content.

Now in our 18th year, The Surfer’s Journal is an innovative hybrid form of publishing that probably illustrates the future role of tangible print products in our society: high priced and top quality in all ways, taking a broad and in-depth approach to its content while remaining topically focused, ideally, a mix of traditional values and cutting edge ideas.

Ross has been involved in surf media for the last 11 years, serving as Executive Editor at Surfer Magazine, then as the Publisher of SURFING magazine for four years. Between those stints he worked with leading apparel company Patagonia where he helped with strategy on their surf inspired apparel initiative. Most recently, Ross comes to Journal Concepts Incorporated from start-up media company, Airborne Media LLC where he served as President of Media and remains a partner. Ross also serves on the Board for Life Rolls On and the Advisory Board for the Surf Industry Manufacturer’s Association. Ross, his wife Alexis, and their son Henry reside in Cardiff, California.
