The World Skateboarding Federation has announced that they will be building a brand new skatepark next to the tennis courts in Montreal, Canada’s Olympic Park. This new sporting feature will apparently be host to the 2017 Canadian Skateboarding Championships.
“This new park will be a fantastic addition to Olympic Park, serving the local skateboarding community as well as hosting major events in the future,” says Tim McFerran, president of the World Skateboarding Federation. “After months working on the design with Spohn Ranch and local Montreal skateboarders, we are moving forward on construction and the plan is to have the park completed by the summer of 2017 with the grand opening at the Canadian Skateboarding Championships.”

World Skateboarding Federation Announces Construction of New Skatepark in Montreal’s Famed Olympic Park
New Skatepark will Host the 2017 Canadian Skateboarding Championships
World Skateboarding Federation and Olympic Park officials announced today a partnership to build a new world class skatepark in Montreal, Canada in Olympic Park, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The state-of-the-art park is planned to host future national and international skateboarding events, including the 2017 Canadian Skateboarding Championships.
World Skateboarding Federation President Tim McFerran said that this new park will serve as a site for future major contests. The new skatepark, located at the corner of Pie-IX and Sherbrooke (sector 600), will be open to the public in summer 2017.

“In just five years, the Olympic Park has become a major cultural and sports recreational tourism site of the city. This new asset, which will be launched in the summer of 2017, strengthens our recreational and sports offer, offering Montrealers one of the most beautiful skateparks in Quebec, “said Michel Labrecque, President and CEO of the Olympic Park. “This is an important legacy left to the surrounding population, for the 40th anniversary of the Olympic Park.”
For professional skater Jean-Sebastien Lapierre, 3rd place finisher in the 2015 Skateboarding World Championships, sanctioned by the World Skateboarding Federation, this new park finally positions Montreal on the map of skateboarders. “This skatepark is truly welcome in Montreal. Skateboarders now have access to free, quality facilities. Initiatives such as these and the Verdun skatepark finally allow younger skaters to practice their sport in a dedicated and safe place,” said Lapierre. “This is without a doubt, the finest facility in the province.”
The Canadian National Skateboard Championships will take place summer 2017 and will be a global showcase for Canadian skaters. Unlike other competitions of this magnitude, registration will be open to all, regardless of the level of riders. Participants can therefore have the chance to earn points to qualify for access to other competitions around the world, accessible by invitation only. In addition, the winner of the Canadian Skateboarding Championships will earn a spot in the 2017 Skateboarding World Championships.
