Arkitip Magazine Cuts Schedule

by The Editors on February 5, 2009

Arkitip0050-Detail-FrontIt’s amazing to us that Arkitip has been able to produce the amazing magazines they’ve been creating for the past three years, however, it looks like the economy is taking its toll on the specialty publishing market as well.

According to an email sent out to advertisers by Tracy Forman, Arkitip, has “made the decision to decrease our magazine publishing frequency from 6 issues to 4 issues a year.”

These changes in the economy have forced us to look at what we are as a brand and focus on further defining it to our customers. We have a groundbreaking publication, a spectacular web property, a thriving online store and thousands of devoted fans of everything Arkitip does. Publishing the magazine 4 times a year does not diminish any of this and will free us up to focus on many other projects that we have had the opportunity to explore before, but never the time.

We always think of cutting print and moving more to the web as a good thing, so congratulations are in order. Follow the jump for the entire email.
Dear Arkitip Advertiser and Supporter:

The economy has been tough on the magazine publishing world over the past 3+ years and through that time, Arkitip has never been affected. Declining advertising budgets, brands shifting advertising resources into online and an increase in consumer online usage have affected the print world dramatically. It wasn’t until this year that Arkitip had felt these affects because prior to the first issue of 2009, our ad sales had grown dramatically and steadily, every year since 1999. It’s only now that we are feeling this contraction that we have made the decision to decrease our magazine publishing frequency from 6 issues to 4 issues a year.

Arkitip, Inc. has always been a company that deals in art, collectables and specialty editions. We are not solely defined by our magazine but it is sometimes what people think of when they hear the name Arkitip. Rest assured that Arkitip will continue to publish the same bold and innovative magazine that has put us on the forefront of groundbreaking art and design, as this has always been our first love and passion. However, these changes usher in a fresh new focus for the company that we happily welcome.

While we are going to have 2 less magazines this year, we are publishing an excellent newspaper supplement which we hope you will consider for your spring 2009 advertising. This supplement will be sent to all Arkitip subscribers and distributed to all our normal wholesale outlets so the circulation will not be diminished. In fact we will print 500 more of these so circulation will be larger. A newspaper is something we have always wanted to do and in the down time in between issues, we thought this would be a perfect project. The content will feature Arkitip’s worldwide cultural tastemakers from the Arkitip Intel, allowing them some space to expand on their musings.

Below is the revised publishing schedule for 2009 and attached is the revised media kit. Please take a look and make sure to delete all other copies of your 2009 media kit as this one replaces all others. This media kit also includes the updated demographic information from our recently completed Magazine Reader survey by Label Networks, which was complied in December 2008. There is new demographic data for both the magazine and web properties, so I have included both the magazine and online media kits here for your review.
