A Sierra resort with deep, deep roots in snowboarding gets the chance to grow more today as California’s June Mountain officially reopens for the 2013-14 season after being shuttered since 2012. Today (Friday, December 13, 2013) the resort that hosted the original OP Pro of Snowboarding is back in the game.
“June has a special place in the hearts of so many skiers and snowboarders, and I know they’re just as excited as we are that June Mountain is reopening on Friday,” said general manager, Carl Williams. “We’ve made some improvements that I think visitors are really going to appreciate. June has always been a really comfortable place to learn to ski or snowboard, and with the new programming and ticket prices I think that’s even more true today.”
It’s like Mammoth’s less crowded, cheaper, more fun little sister. . . ah, or something like that. A Family Favorite for Generations, California’s June Mountain is Now Free for Kids 12 and Under
June Lake, Calif. – For the first time since 2011the lifts at June Mountain are set to turn when the resort opens for the 2013-14 season on Friday, December 13. Located 20 minutes north of Mammoth Mountain in California’s Eastern Sierra, June has provided a wintery sanctuary for generations of families and reopens this year with a number of improvements that focus on the beginner and intermediate experience. Lift tickets for opening day will be available for $10.

June’s family-first philosophy can be seen in a number of changes made around the mountain. Kids 12 and under will ski June for free, everyday, all season long. The June Mountain ski-school will specialize in offering full-day lessons designed to get new skiers and snowboarders up and going. And lesson and rental packages for beginner will also be available, offering significant savings.
In the lodge, parents will find a new lounge area designed with their needs in mind. And at the base, kids will enjoy themed programming, including bon fire celebrations each weekend with June’s new mascot, Bucky, and his friends. The bon fires are a great way to end a day on the slopes, complete with s’mores and activities to engage kids of all ages.
“I think families are really going to like the programming and ski school options, but part of what makes June so accessible is the terrain itself,” said Williams. “It’s a sizable mountain, over 500 acres, and 80% of the runs are intermediate or beginner. That kind of variety really allows you to learn and progress on the snow at your own pace”
