Another DIY skateboard park is no more thanks to the wonderful work of the California Department of Transportation. This one (snatch) in San Diego was off Rancho Mission Road near Qualcomm Stadium according to a story on Fox 5.

“We were notified recently of a skate park that was built with wood and concrete in one of the drainage canals that parallels Interstate 8,” said Caltrans spokesman Ed Cartagena. “Accidents can happen, so in terms of exposure to liability, we try to limit that by making certain locations illegal to place things.”

Nice to know that in this California State budget crisis that CalTrans has more than enough money to destroy skateparks up and down the Golden State. Someone’s priorities are obviously confused.

DiY skate areas like this keep people occupied in their interests and gives them creative inspiration to make what they like, keeps people off the streets and is no harm and out the way of everyone. no one will make a law sue or something like that, if they make it themselves and skate at their own risk and ability, does it not show how people can work together in the community to reach a common goal that will be loved and well used and respected by many. would like to know what other things people in this community have put together over the years on this scale other than this place by people that are not skateboarders…. people love art and sculptures, thats pretty much what these places are….

It’s the bad apples that screw it up for the rest of us. This day in age no one takes responsibility for their own actions. If little Johny bust his head open at at a DiY skate area on public land is Johny’s family going to sue the people who illegally built the park? Or are they going to sue the city because they are the ones who “have money” and are the easiest to track down? Yeah it’s sucks but it’s cheaper to hire a wrecking crew for a few thousand dollars than to deal with a multimillion dollar law suit.

There is a guy suing Channel Islands because the fins on his surf board cut his leg and he is claiming it caused muscle damage. Unfortunately, people are stupid and the world is only getting dumber.
