SIA Denver: There’s An App For That

by The Editors on January 21, 2011

Snowshow App-1In past years our policy has always been to roam the SIA Snow Show and see what catches our eyes or ears. While this create epic moments of serendipitous discovery it also means that we often miss some really cool shit.

This year we won’t have that problem because the SIA has created an iPhone app (and Blackberry and Android apps for those sad lonely, beaten down workers forced to use shoddy tools). It’s called SIA 2011 and was created by Core Apps.

Use the SIA Snow Show App to navigate the Show with interactive floor plans, exhibitor lists, twitter feeds, events schedules, listings for Denver bars and restaurants and create your own Show schedule.

The digital map is reason enough to download the app, but add to that a searchable exhibitor list (with booth numbers and full contact info), an events schedule (which has not been updated yet), Twitter feed, Denver Guide, and contact info for all the speakers at SIA and it is a mandatory piece of software for anyone attending the show. One of the coolest bits is that exhibitors in the list can be starred and or checked off the list and later viewed in an “exhibitors visited list.” Keeping track of who to see and who we’ve seen has never been easier.

After years of being at SIA adrift and unguided, the SIA Snow Show app comes like a light in the darkness. Click this link for the iPhone version. You other smartphone heathens are on your own.

SIA Snow Show Returns For Second Run in Denver

Plenty of Snow Giving Industry a Reason to Celebrate in 2011

MCLEAN, Va. (Jan 21, 2011) – From January 27-30, 2011, snow sports representatives from around the globe will take over downtown Denver to do business, network and celebrate their passion for all things snow. The 2011 SIA Snow Show will once again deliver the hottest snow sports trends, innovations, educational seminars, product presentations, personalities, events, concerts, meetings and parties. Show attendees will conduct business that can only happen during the SIA Snow Show – viewing full color-lines and major trends for Winter 2011.12, meeting with key principals and networking with industry leaders face-to-face.

“Our second year in Denver has shaped up really well with a sold-out Show, retail registration is up over last year and the number of exhibitors for both the Snow Show at the Colorado Convention Center and the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest at Winter Park Resort and Devil’s Thumb Ranch are also up significantly. Plus, all the great snow we’ve seen this season has led to very strong sales at retail,” said David Ingemie, SIA President.

A major highlight during the Show will be SIA’s Snow Fashion & Trends Show featuring RAMP IT UP as the grand finale to the event and a fundraiser for OIWC. RAMP IT UP will star notable industry veterans (all men) strutting their stuff in feminine, yet technical women’s winter fashions. Industry “bigwigs” including David Ingemie, SIA President, Mike Carey, CEO & Co-President of Seirus, George Curleigh, National Sales Manager for Arc’teryx, Dan Sullivan, Director of Sales for Rome Snowboards and many more will hit the runway before the evening is over.

Other not-to-be-missed events include the official announcement of the 2010 SIA Retailers and Reps of the Year Award winners. The INNOVATIONS, NOW exhibit, located in the Show Registration area, will highlight next season’s latest innovations and hottest snow sports trends from 133 brands. An online preview of the exhibit is available at INNOVATIONS, NOW Sneak Peak for a glimpse at some of the exhibitors’ products. The first ever RECLAIM Project, presented by 686, Malakye.comand SIA, will throw down the ultimate 72-hour challenge to new designers in the lobby of the Colorado Convention Center. The RECLAIM Project is a unique design contest cultivating emerging talent while encouraging environmental awareness. The three handpicked RECLAIM Project designers include Kristen Nuttall (New York, NY), Julie Tierney (Brooklyn, NY) and Megan Johnston (Alta, Utah). For those interested in pursuing a career in the snow sports industry SIA will also host networking and job fair ShmoozaPalooza, presented by Malakye.comand SIA.

Downtown Denver will act as the backdrop for several snow sports-focused events including Snowdown– a huge kick-off party Thursday, January 27, featuring an all-nighter line up of performances on five stages with headliner Z-Trip and a special TBA guest. Denver locals are invited to attend the inaugural Ski Channel Film Festival and Ski Film Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (Jan 27-29) at the Colorado Convention Center. TransWorld SNOWboarding will host its 12th Annual Riders’ Poll Award Show (Jan 28) and for hockey fans, the SIA/SOS Shootout (Jan 26) will benefit SOS Outreach — a nonprofit organization that builds character and self-esteem in youth through outdoor activities.

During the Show, attendees are encouraged to come crash The Yard– a community space dedicated to merging art, entertainment and image into one cultural zone that emanates the lifestyle of the snow sports industry. Visitors to The Yard can enjoy relaxing massages, DJ’s, beer, pong, highlights from TransWorld SNOWboarding and learn more about Protect Our Winters (POW). Or, just chill in a lovesac for a few minutes and watch Matchstick Films latest film “The Way I See It.” Also, attendees can drop by The Yard every day from 9A – 6P to listen to the new PIIQ Headphones by Sony. Each night at 6P, PIIQ Headphones by Sony will bring the best in local DJ talent. Attendees can sip free beer and check out MSP & Dean Cumming’s Film “It’s Our Time” on Friday, January 28 at 6P. These events are presented by SIA, H2O Outdoor Gear, H2O Guides, MSP and Polarmax. In conjunction with AR4T – Artists Republic for Tomorrow, the Yard will showcase artwork from Jeff Anderson, Chris Partelow / JDK Design, Jamie Lynn, Ben Brough, Chris Brunkhart, Carl E Smith, Sticky and Danny Zapalac.

SIA will also provide a full line-up of free seminars for all Show attendees – each conveniently held onsite at the Colorado Convention Center. The 2011 SIA Snow Show will be followed by the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, January 31 & February 1 at Winter Park Resort (Alpine/Snowboard & Ski-Ride Fest) and Devil’s Thumb Ranch (Nordic). Over 150 brands are involved in this, two-day demo/ski-ride fest event complete with on-snow competitions: Uphill/Downhill Challenge and Office Booyz & Girlz Competition and a 2 Mile High BBQ at the Sunspot Lodge on Monday, January 31.
