Papua New Guinea Surf Is Isolated

by The Editors on December 13, 2010

We can’t really figure this surf film out. Isolated features what appears to be amazing camera work and a cast that includes: Josh Fuller, Travis Potter, Jenny Useldinger, Andrew Mooney, and Jimmy Rotherham.

Isolated is obviously well-funded. It’s being produced by Ryan Phillippe. But all the fancy graphics, spear-holding natives, and over-the-top voice over aimed obviously at a mainstream audience makes the trailer a little tough to watch. Not to say that Papua New Guinea isn’t a frightening place.

“Enter a forbidden land on the most secluded corner of the globe. Where five world class surfers journey into a world left behind. They search to ride untouched waves and bring surfing to the edge of civilization. But what they find will change them forever.”

Is there really “no turning back?” Did they all die? Guess we won’t know until we see the film.

We’ve met numerous people who said Papua New Guinea is the most amazing place for diving on the planet. I heard that coral basically started there & worked it’s way out around the planet. They also said that the island itself is just as ultra-super sketchy as anyplace on earth & when they fly in, their guides get them off the island & into the boat as soon as possible. Beautiful though.

thanks for posting…the film has been a labor of love taking over 2 years to produce so far and is not a big budget project but rather good people getting together who know how to make a picture with limited resources.

look for the picture in mid 2011.

I have family members who spent WWII stationed in New Guinea. Parts are friendly, but parts are not. A very poor nation with very little exposure to the ouside world or attention from the West. But beautiful? Yes.
