Stories of Stab Magazine and racism are fast becoming cliché. In the most recent episode Mick Fanning’s lawyers asked Stab to pull their January/February issue off newsstands due to a few culturally problematic quotes from the current world champ.
The issue features a Charlie Smith story titled Tales of a Fucking Jew in which Fanning is reportedly quoted making similarly anti-semitic comments directed at Smith (pictured left) in December 2009 at a Rip Curl party celebrating Mick’s 2010 ASP world title win.
According to a story in The Australian Stab publisher Sam McIntosh has complied with the request and the issue is no longer available.
He said Stab had acceded to a request from Fanning’s lawyers to pull the issue from newsstands, but not for legal reasons. . . He said the decision was motivated by a desire to maintain good relations with the surfer and only after Fanning had expressed contrition. . . He denied the assertion that as Fanning’s sponsor, Rip Curl, was also an advertiser with the magazine, this had influenced the withdrawal of the issue.

Times are tough enough for print magazines without pulling newsstand issues and being forced into refunding all those advertising dollars. Sounds like some bad decisions all around.
Why do I have Deja Vue here? Oh yeah, Palmer and the Body Glove incident……..HAHA Hot Dog anyone?
