Terry Kidwell’s Classic Board Firesale

by The Editors on January 21, 2010

We want Terry Kidwell to get paid, but watching him pitching the boards that he used to invent freestyle snowboarding is almost too painful to watch. These boards are priceless.

As a commenter sb13c on Youtube said, “Someone needs to buy this and put it back on TK’s wall in it’s rightful place.”

We agree. Then again, if Terry wants to clean out his garage this way who are we to stop him.

It’s a shame that Terry is not hailed as the god he is and taken care of by the industry that he helped create. If I had asshole money I would take care ok Terry in a minute. Without a question.

BIG TK FAN January 21, 2010 at 12:09 pm

The WHOLE freaking ALDEN FAMILY should style Terry Out!!!!!!!! Oh wait, Dave NEVER thought of anyone but himself….

So sad. Sometimes there’s no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Terry’s caught in that in-between place between when he was the Father of Freestyle and the time when he’ll be fully recognized for it long after the fact.

If snowboarding follows surfing, that board will be worth ten times as much in a few years, then much more than that down the line. There’s only one Terry and this board is exceedingly rare. Good luck, man, I hope this board takes you where you want/need to go.

Terry Kidwell has a dream to own his own home, instead of paying rent forever. I can barely make my own mortgage payment each month along with 3 college tuitions, and all the other expenses, or I would be buying that board in a heart beat, and handing it right back to Terry or having it put in the Smithsonian (TK’s choice) as one of the most important pieces of sporting goods equipment ever to be developed, along with the story of TK ‘The Father of Freestyle Snowboarding’. No one should get down on Terry for this personally. He is one hell of a great person, and honest as can be. If anybody out there can win the bid on this board and hold it till the dust settles, and then do the right thing, it would be eternally cool. Many of the pioneers of this great sport did not get to that ‘Pot of Gold’ at the “End of the Rainbow”as Kevin said, due primarily to the fact that the market got almost completely cornered by one company, and that is just the way it went down.

Jake, if you get wind of this (I’m sure you will), the ball is in your court. Tom and Terry are a big reason why you were pushed so hard to be successful during those formative years. Smithsonian sounds like a great idea.

Tom Sims January 22, 2010 at 10:02 am

Yea I agree, Dave and Rick are both great people. Rick has worked his butt off to be so successful with Skullcandy. If Rick did get that TK board I am sure everything would work out cool.

Jeremy Kidwell January 23, 2010 at 4:50 pm

I may have to bid on this myself. At least then it would stay in the family.

Jamie Meiselman February 19, 2010 at 7:03 am

Bidding ended at $10,200 and reserve not met. Ouch.
