For those who haven’t had the opportunity to crowd around a light-table with The Skateboard Mag’s legendary skateboard photographer Grant Brittain as he goes through slides, this profile on Push.ca is about as close as you’ll ever get. It is part one of their Photographer Series and we can’t think of a better photographer to start with. Watch and learn.
Turns out Bain Capital, the company co-founded by US Presidential bumbler Mitt Romney, is not interested in purchasing Billabong, according to a story last week in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Billabong said today the second party to make a takeover offer had now withdrawn from the formal process. . . The company’s shares slumped as much as 6.9 per cent after coming out of a trading halt this morning and were recently trading at $1.335, down 11 cents, or 7.6 per cent, well below the value of the offers.
But the most interesting comment cam from IG Markets analyst Cameron Peacock.
‘‘They are a struggling retailer,’’ he said. ‘‘As a shareholder the only reason you would have been comfortable holding this stock was because it was under takeover offer. ‘‘I’m surprised it is only down seven per cent.’’
Maybe Billabong should swap out their “Life’s Better In Boardshorts” tagline for a new one: “We’re A Struggling Retailer.”
Fiat has teamed up with Nitro Snowboards to create vehicles based on the Qubo Trekking (above) designed to appeal to snowboarders and those who like to think of themselves as snowboarders, according to a story on Autoevolution.
The main feature, present on all the aforementioned cars is the roof-mounted storage box which can carry 490 liters-worth of snowboards, or anything else you may fancy carrying. However, you would have to take out the snowboard which already resides in the box, because all Nitro cars come with a snowboard and branded backpack.
The cars, premiered at the Paris Auto Show, also come with Nitro hoodie seat-covers to keep those dirty shreds from messing up the interior. Follow the jump for more photos. [click to continue…]
When Mick Fanning mentioned (on Twitter) that he thought a new cruise ship terminal on the Goldie would cause “mass impact to the marine life, waves and lifestyle on the Gold Coast” mayor Tom Tate said he would “listen to the people that matter,” according to a story on Goldcoast.com.au.
But obviously, Mayor Tom didn’t know he was messing with the whole tribe.
Gold Coast surfing champions Mark Richardson and Andrew McKinnon have lashed out. . . Mr Richardson, a former Australian champion, scoffed at Cr Tate’s claims that he would find other high-profile surfers to back plans for a Gold Coast terminal. . . “I don’t think you’ll find any surfers that will be on Tom Tate’s side about that,” he said. . . “Every surfer will be standing behind Mick Fanning, you can pretty much guarantee that. I can’t believe those comments. It’s absolutely ludicrous.” . . . Mr Richardson said his brother-in-law and fellow champion surfer Joel Parkinson would back Fanning. . . “We think it’s a joke. Mr Tate is underestimating surfers’ value.”
Looks like this discussion is going to be rolling on for a while.

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to get us to link up an edit. Take this Weekend Buzz for instance. The only reason we’re posting it up is because we still have a five-year-old, not even set up Toy Machine Johnny Layton in our storage room. This interweb thing is all about connections, isn’t it?
