Five people suffered minor injuries today at Sierra-At-Tahoe when high winds broke the top of a tree off sending it falling directly onto the cable of the resort’s West Bowl Express, according to a tweet from @Sierra_at_Tahoe around 1 PM. Sierra’s Kristin Cattell told the Sacramento Bee that:
. . . the impact of the falling tree top caused the occupants in two nearby chairs to be “bounced out of their seats and into the snow between 5 feet and 15 feet below.Cattell said the ski patrol arrived at the site within minutes and provided aid.
Sierra closed a few minutes later at around 11 AM because of increased high winds.

It was a dark and stormy day in Breckenridge, Colorado December 18, 2010 for the Nike 6.0 Winter Dew Tour halfpipe. But Louie Vito danced right through the drifting powder to a win with a front double 10, Cab double 10, crippler, Michaelchuck front 10, and a Cab 7.
“It’s a good way to start the season off with my first Dew Tour win and second win of the season. But now I have to keep it moving,” Vito said. “Everyone’s going to be going strong at the next contest, so it’s another day, another contest and good times.”

We may have mentioned this before, but Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, Kevin Staab, and maybe Mike McGill will be skating at Surf Expo during Quiksilver’s All 80’s All Day Vert Challenge being held Friday January 7, 2011 directly following the show at 6 PM.
Tony and the boys will be joined by 10 other 80’s skate legends in competing for $1980 in cash.
We know they’re getting ready, because Tony Hawk just tweeted this photo today from McGill’s Skateshop in Encinitas, California. It would be good to see it live. But we have a couple questions: What did people wear in the 80s? How is Orlando in January?
Golden Glow, New York resident Ann C. Howe, 78, the woman who hit-and-run killed 18-year-old skateboarder Timothy Olson, on August 24, 2010 was sentenced today to one year in county jail and had her drivers license revoked, according to the Star Gazette.
The 18-year-old was struck on Aug. 24 as he rode his skateboard on Hoffman Street near Elmira Free Academy. He died three days later of injuries he sustained in the accident. An anonymous tip led Elmira City Police to Howe and she was arraigned on the charge before Judge James Hayden three weeks after the incident.
One year doesn’t really seem like enough, does it? Then again, at 78 it could be a life sentence.
Joseph Cormier, 41, pleaded guilty to careless driving this morning (December 17, 2010) for the April 6, 2010 skateboard towing death of his friend Norman Swyer, 28, of Beamsville, Ontario. Canada according to a story in The Standard.
Court heard Swyer asked for a tow on his skateboard behind Cormier’s car on a rural Beamsville road. Cormier agreed and pulled him for about 200 metres, when Swyer lost control and fell, striking his head on the pavement. He died of serious head injuries four days later in a Hamilton hospital.
Cormier will be on probation and banned from driving for six month, according to the story. He’ll also have to pay a $1,000 fine. But we’re guessing the worst punishment of all is knowing the part he played in his friend’s death.
On December 16, 2010 etnies invited 580 kids from Orange County California Boys & Girls Clubs to come by the office and have a holiday party in the back parking lot. The event featured a mass of bouncy houses, appearances by Ryan Sheckler, Kyle Leeper, Devine Calloway and Tyler Bledsoe, and most importantly free brand new shoe.
